Daugavpils Tramway
Daugavpils Satiksme ( en, Daugavpils Transport, italic=yes) is the public transport corporation which operates tram and bus systems in the eastern Latvian city of Daugavpils. Two municipal public transport companies existed before 1 January 2014; A/S "Tramvaju uzņēmums" (''Tramway Enterprise JSC'') and SIA "Daugavpils autobusu parks". Buses The bus network currently comprises 33 routes. In 2021 the purchase of 35 compressed natural gas powered buses was approved, to be supported by the Cohesion Fund. In 2022 the fleet consisted of 28 Solaris, 16 Volvo, 5 Iveco and 11 Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Bus routes Tramways The tram network was opened on 5 November 1946 and a second line was opened in 1950 and extended in 1951 and 1958. Further extensions followed in 1965, 1990, 2020 and 2023. Current Collector
Electric current collectors are used by trolleybuses, trams, electric locomotives or EMUs to carry electrical power from overhead lines, electrical third rails, or ground-level power supplies to the electrical equipment of the vehicles. Those for overhead wires are roof-mounted devices, those for rails are mounted on the bogies. Typically, electric current connectors have one or more spring-loaded arms that press a collector or contact shoe against the rail or overhead wire. As the vehicle moves, the contact shoe slides along the wire or rail to draw the electricity needed to run the vehicle's motor. The current collector arms are electrically conductive but mounted insulated on the vehicle's roof, side or base. An insulated cable connects the collector with the switch, transformer or motor. The 71-623 is a 40% low floor, one way tram built by Ust-Katav Wagon-Building Plant. Construction completed in November 2008, under the contract to Mosgortrans which was created in January 2008. Since then, it has been exported to Kazakhstan, Ukraine and Latvia. Design As modern, low floor tram cars became more widespread, UKVZ decided to create their own low floor model, the 71-623. To achieve the low floor design, a new bogie was built and assigned the model 630.0.01. These bogies have a two-stage suspension, and hydraulic vibration dampers are installed to improve ride quality. UKVZ's implementation of bogies allows for a lower high floor level when compared to Uraltransmash 71-407. The vehicles use asynchronous motors and transistor control. Before the 71-623-04 modification, the cars feature no passenger air conditioning by default and it was installed only for the driver and cars were painted in bright colours. The 71-608 (in colloquial language KTM-8) is a Russian motor four-axle high-floor tramcar. These rail vehicles are produced by Ust'-Katav Vagon-building plant (UKVZ, УКВЗ, Усть-Катавский Вагоностроительный Завод имени С. М. Кирова - Russian abbreviature and full name). "KTM" means ''Kirov Motor Tramcar'' (russian: Кировский Трамвай Моторный). This abbreviature was producer's official trademark before 1976, when new designation system for tram and subway rolling stock was introduced in the Soviet Union. Tatra T3
The T3 is a type of Czech tramcar produced by ČKD Tatra. A late-2000s study conducted on the Prague tram system has shown 98.9% reliability, the best of the Prague tram system fleet. During its period of production between 1960 and 1999, 13,991 powered units and 122 unpowered trailers were sold worldwide. It became the most dominant tramcar model in Eastern Bloc countries, except for Poland, where locally produced trams from Konstal factory are still the mainstay in tram systems there. ČKD (Českomoravská Kolben-Daněk) () was one of the largest engineering companies in the former Czechoslovakia and today's Czech Republic. It is famous for the Tatra T3, a tramcar that sold 13,991 units worldwide.
