Dasmariñas, Makati
Dasmariñas is a barangay in Makati, Metro Manila, Philippines. It occupies 1.9033 square kilometers or 190.33 hectares and is bounded by Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) to the north, McKinley Road to the northeast, Pili Avenue/ Forbes Park South to the east, Maricaban Creek to the south, and Ecology Village to the west. It is roughly coterminous with Dasmariñas Village, a gated private residential subdivision. According to the 2015 census, it is inhabited by 5,589 people. The village is managed by the Dasmariñas Village Association (DVA). History Dasmariñas Village was developed by Ayala y Compañía in the early 1960s and was originally conceived as part of Forbes Park. It is believed to be the first housing development in the Philippines to include air conditioning as a standard feature in all its houses. Mar-len Abigail "Abby" Sombillo Binay-Campos (born December 12, 1975) is a Filipina lawyer and politician who has been the Mayor of Makati since 2016. She formerly served in the Congress as Representative of Makati's 2nd District from 2007 to 2016, when she was replaced by her husband, Luis Campos. She is also the daughter of former Vice President Jejomar Binay. Jejomar "Jojo" Cabauatan Binay Sr. (born Jesus Jose Cabauatan Binay; November 11, 1942) is a Filipino lawyer and politician who served as the 13th vice president of the Philippines from 2010 to 2016, under President Benigno Aquino III. A human rights lawyer during the Martial law period under President Ferdinand Marcos, Binay provided free legal services to political prisoners before being arrested and detained at the Ipil Rehabilitation Center. Oakwood Mutiny
On July 23, 2003, a failed coup d'etat, now known as the Oakwood mutiny, was staged by a group of about 300 armed defectors from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) led by Army Capt. Gerardo Gambala and Navy 2nd Lt. Antonio Trillanes IV against the Arroyo administration. The group forcibly seized and occupied Oakwood Premier in Glorietta, Makati for almost 20 hours. They demanded the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes, PNP Director General Hermogenes Ebdane, and AFP Chief of Intelligence Service Victor Corpus.
