Dash Express
The Dash Express was an Internet-enabled personal navigation device manufactured by Dash Navigation Dash Express transmitted information using a GPRS connection back to Dash Navigation in order to enhance traffic routing as well as use wifi for the purpose of updating GPS. At time of its availability, the Dash Express was only available for use in the US. In June 2009, Research in Motion has acquired Dash Navigation and discontinued service and support of the Dash Express product effective June 30, 2010. Dash Navigation was a start-up based in Mountain View, California that produced devices and software for in- car navigation systems. Their first product was Dash Express. In January, 2007 Dash Express won "Best of CES" awards from both CNET and LAPTOP Magazine. The company was also named an Innovations 2007 honoree by the Consumer Electronics Association. Hardware The company used Sparkfactor Design for the Product Design (Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering). Dash Express was released to the general public in March 2008. GPRS
General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a packet oriented mobile data standard on the 2G and 3G cellular communication network's global system for mobile communications (GSM). GPRS was established by European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) in response to the earlier CDPD and i-mode packet-switched cellular technologies. It is now maintained by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). GPRS is typically sold according to the total volume of data transferred during the billing cycle, in contrast with circuit switched data, which is usually billed per minute of connection time, or sometimes by one-third minute increments. Openmoko
Openmoko is a discontinued project to create a family of open source mobile phones, including the hardware specification, the operating system (Openmoko Linux), and actual smartphone development implementation like the Neo 1973 and Neo FreeRunner. The whole project was sponsored by Openmoko Inc. The first sub-project was Openmoko Linux, a Linux-based operating system designed for mobile phones, built using free software. The second sub-project was developing hardware devices on which Openmoko Linux runs. The first device released was the Neo 1973, in 2007, which was followed up by the Neo FreeRunner on 25 June 2008. On 2 April 2009, Openmoko suspended development of their third device, codenamed GTA03, to focus on the FreeRunner.
