__NOTOC__ Dasgupta (pronounced ) is a common Bengali last name or surname in West Bengal and Bangladesh. The surname is found among the members of the Baidya caste. Baidya or Vaidya is a Hindu community of Bengal. A caste/''jāti'' of Ayurvedic physicians, Baidyas have long occupied a place of pre-eminence in society alongside Brahmins and Kayasthas. Buddhadeb Dasgupta (11 February 1944 – 10 June 2021) was an Indian filmmaker and poet best known for his Cinema of West Bengal, Bengali-language films like ''Bagh Bahadur'', ''Tahader Katha'', ''Charachar'' and ''Uttara (film), Uttara''. Five of his films have won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film, ''Bagh Bahadur'' (1989), ''Charachar'' (1993), ''Lal Darja'' (1997), ''Mondo Meyer Upakhyan'' (2002) and ''Kaalpurush (2005 film), Kaalpurush'' (2008), while ''Dooratwa'' (1978) and ''Tahader Katha'' (1993) have won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali. Chandan Dasgupta ( bn, চন্দন দাশগুপ্ত), (born 1951) is an Indian theoretical physicist known for his contributions in condensed matter physics and statistical physics. Ashok Kumar (Benu) Dasgupta (born Kolkata, India, 7 March 1928; died 21 April 2010) was an Indian cricketer. He was active during the 1950s and played for the Bengal and Bihar cricket teams. Alokeranjan Dasgupta
Alokeranjan Dasgupta (6 October 1933 – 17 November 2020) was a Bengali poet who was the author of over 20 books of poetry. He translated Bengali and Santal poetry and plays into English and German, and also translated literature from German and French into Bengali. He also published a number of books of essays, and was well known for his distinctive prose style. Education Dasgupta was born in 1933 in Kolkata. Basudeb Dasgupta (31 December 1938 – 31 August 2005) is an Indian novelist and short-story writer associated with the Hungry generation movement in Bengali literature. He is considered one of the most significant avant-garde and controversial figures in the history of Bengali literature. Biplab Dasgupta (2 January 1938 – 17 July 2005) was a Marxian economist, former member of Rajya Sabha , Lok Sabha and the Bengal state committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), CPI(M).
