Das Jüngste Gericht
(''The Last Judgement''), BuxWV Anh. 3, is an anonymous 17th-century oratorio in three acts, attributed to Dieterich Buxtehude. It is also known by its incipit, "Wacht! Euch zum Streit gefasset macht" (Wake up! Prepare yourselves for battle). History Buxtehude was organist and Werkmeister (administrator of the church's finances) at the Marienkirche in Lübeck, where he performed his concert series, the '' Abendmusiken''. He possibly performed it as part of the Abendmusiken, a concert series begun by his predecessor, Franz Tunder, and which Buxtehude brought to fame. The work is only preserved in an undated and anonymous set of parts in the Düben collection. There has been much scholarly debate on the subject of the work's authenticity. The work was first identified and attributed to Buxtehude by Willy Maxton in the 1920s. Dieterich Buxtehude (; ; born Diderik Hansen Buxtehude; c. 1637 – 9 May 1707)  was a Danish organist and composer of the Baroque period, whose works are typical of the North German organ school. As a composer who worked in various vocal and instrumental idioms, Buxtehude's style greatly influenced other composers, such as Johann Sebastian Bach. St John Passion Structure
The structure of the ''St John Passion'' (german: Johannes-Passion, link=no), BWV 245, a sacred oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach, is "carefully designed with a great deal of musico-theological intent". Some main aspects of the structure are shown in tables below. The original Latin title translates to "Passion according to John". Bach's large choral composition in two parts on German text, written to be performed in a Lutheran service on Good Friday, is based on the Passion, as told in two chapters from the Gospel of John ( and ) in the translation by Martin Luther, with two short interpolations from the Gospel of Matthew (in the earliest version, one is from the Gospel of Matthew and one from the Gospel of Mark). The Ensemble Weser-Renaissance Bremen is a German instrumental Ensemble, which specialises primarily in the preparation and performance of the musical works of the Renaissance and Baroque music. Roland Wilson (conductor)
Roland Wilson (born 1956 in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England) is a British cornett player, and conductor based in Germany. Roland Wilson originally studied trumpet at the Royal College of Music, London, then specializing in the baroque cornett. After moving to Germany, he worked as a soloist for other ensembles, for example alongside fellow cornettist Bruce Dickey, in the March 1985 recording of the Heinrich Schütz ''Opus Ultimum'' with the Hilliard Ensemble and Knabenchor Hannover for EMI. Andreas Karasiak (born 1968) is a German classical tenor in opera and concert. Career Andreas Karasiak studied voice at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz with Claudia Eder. Caroline Stam is a Dutch classical soprano who has an international (European) performing career specializing in baroque repertoire, reinforced by a distinguished presence in modern recordings (see below). Education Stam studied voice at the Sweelinck Conservatory Amsterdam with Erna Spoorenberg, graduated with honours, and continued in master classes with Elly Ameling. Ton Koopman
Antonius Gerhardus Michael Koopman (; born 2 October 1944), known professionally as Ton Koopman, is a Dutch conductor, organist, harpsichordist, and musicologist, primarily known for being the founder and director of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir. He is a professor at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and the University of Leiden. In April 2003 he was knighted in the Netherlands, and received the Order of the Netherlands Lion. Biography Koopman had a "classical education" and then studied the organ (with Simon C. Jansen), harpsichord (with Gustav Leonhardt), and musicology at the Amsterdam conservatory.
