''Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank'' (also known as ''Anne Frank's diary'') is a 2016 German drama film directed by German filmmaker Hans Steinbichler and written by Fred Breinersdorfer. It stars Lea van Acken as Anne Frank, the titular character, Martina Gedeck, Ulrich Noethen, and Stella Kunkat. The film is based on Anne Frank's The Diary of a Young Girl, famous diary and tells the story of Anne Frank, the Jewish girl who went into hiding with her family in Amsterdam and became a victim of the Holocaust. The world premiere was held at February 16, 2016 in a special presentation for young people during the 66th Berlin International Film Festival. It was listed as one of eight films that could be the German submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards, but it was not selected. Hans Steinbichler
Hans Sebastian Steinbichler (born 1 November 1966) is a German film director and screenwriter. Biography Steinbichler grew up in Kothöd in Upper Bavaria. He got his Abitur at the Ludwig-Thoma-Gymnasium Prien am Chiemsee. Then he studied jurisprudence in Passau first, but in 1995 he decided to attend the University of Television and Film Munich, where he finished his studies in 2003. In the same year, Steinbichler was awarded with the Förderpreis Deutscher Film and the golden Grimme-Preis for his debut film ''Hierankl''. The leading actress Johanna Wokalek won the Bavarian Film Award. In 2007, Steinbichlers film '' Winter Journey'' got several nominations for the Deutscher Filmpreis and ''Die zweite Frau'' was awarded with the Grimme-Preis. Petronella Van Daan
Anne Frank (12 June 1929 — February 1945) was a German-born Jewish girl who, along with her family and four other people, hid in the second and third floor rooms at the back of her father's Amsterdam company during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Helped by several trusted employees of the company, the group of eight survived in the '' achterhuis'' (literally "back-house", usually translated as "secret annex") for more than two years before they were betrayed, and arrested. Anne kept a diary from 12 June 1942 until 1 August 1944, three days before the residents of the annex were arrested. Anne mentioned several times in her writings that her sister Margot Frank also kept a diary, but no trace of Margot's diary was ever found. Margot Betti Frank (16 February 1926 – ) was the elder daughter of Otto Frank and Edith Frank and the elder sister of Anne Frank. Margot's deportation order from the Gestapo hastened the Frank family into hiding. According to the diary of her younger sister, Anne, Margot kept a diary of her own, but no trace of it has ever been found. She died in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Otto Heinrich Frank (12 May 1889 – 19 August 1980) was a German businessman who later became a resident of the Netherlands and Switzerland. Edith Frank (; 16 January 1900 – 6 January 1945) was the mother of Holocaust diarist Anne Frank, and her older sister Margot.
