Das Boot (song)
"Das Boot" (released in the UK and US as "The Boat") is the title theme to the film and TV series ''Das Boot'', composed and produced by Klaus Doldinger, and released as a single in 1981. In 1991, the song was covered by Alex Christensen and his dance music project U96. This techno version was U96's debut single from the Das Boot (album), album of the same name. On the German Singles Chart, the U96 version of "Das Boot" spent 13 weeks at number one in early 1992. It also became a number-one hit in Austria, Israel, Norway and Switzerland and entered the top 10 in Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands and Sweden. In the UK, it peaked at number 18 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was the subject of many remixes throughout the years. ''Das Boot: German U-boat Simulation'' is a submarine simulator game designed by Paul Butler & Rick Banks and published in 1990 for Amiga and MS-DOS systems by Three-Sixty Pacific. It was inspired by the 1973 novel of the same name and its film adaptation. The player takes command of a German Type VII U-boat and plays missions against the Allies which involve combat against aircraft, anti-submarine warships, and other submarines. The game was touted to feature 256 VGA Color, 3D Views, and historical realism. Release The MS-DOS version was released on 3.5" floppy disks and came packaged with a copy of the novel of the same name. Lothar-Günther Buchheim () (February 6, 1918 – February 22, 2007) was a German author, painter, and wartime journalist under the Nazi regime. In World War II he served as a war correspondent aboard ships and U-boats. He is best known for his 1973 antiwar novel ''Das Boot'' (''The Boat''), based on his experiences during the war, which became an international bestseller and was adapted in 1981 as an Oscar-nominated film of the same name. M&G Records was a record label founded by Michael Levy after he sold his previous label Magnet Records in 1988 to WEA for an estimated £10 million.
