Dartmouth–New Hampshire Rivalry
The Dartmouth–New Hampshire rivalry is an intrastate college sports rivalry between the Dartmouth Big Green and New Hampshire Wildcats. Basketball Dartmouth and New Hampshire field the only two Division I college basketball teams in the Granite State. The Big Green and the Wildcats have met 71 times since 1908, with Darmouth leading the series 36–35. 21 of the 71 games have been decided by a single basket; 30 have been decided by two baskets or fewer. The two teams have played at least once every season since 1971, with the longest gap between games occurring between 1934 and 1952. The longest winning streak for either team in the 108-year history of the series is eight (Dartmouth, 1986 to 1992). Over the last quarter-century, however, New Hampshire has dominated the series, winning 17 of 26 games. The Dartmouth College Big Green are the varsity and club athletic teams representing Dartmouth College, an American university located in Hanover, New Hampshire. Dartmouth's teams compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level as a member of the Ivy League conference, as well as in the ECAC Hockey conference. The New Hampshire Wildcats, or 'Cats, are the American intercollegiate athletic teams representing the University of New Hampshire (UNH), located in Durham. The wildcat is the school's official mascot, the colors are UNH Blue and white. The Dartmouth Big Green men's basketball program is the intercollegiate men's basketball program of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. The program is classified in the NCAA Division I and the team competes in the Ivy League. They play their home games at Leede Arena and are coached by David McLaughlin. The Big Green have not had a winning record since going 14–12 in the 1998–99 season. The New Hampshire Wildcats Basketball team is the basketball team that represent the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire. The school's team currently competes in the America East Conference and plays its home games at Lundholm Gym. College Basketball
In United States colleges, top-tier basketball is governed by collegiate athletic bodies including National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA). Leede Arena
Edward Leede Arena is a 2,100-seat, multi-purpose arena in Hanover, New Hampshire. It has been home to the men's and women's Dartmouth College Big Green basketball team since its dedication on May 22, 1987. It is located within the John W. Berry Sports Center, which includes Leede Arena; two additional regulation basketball courts; a 4,500-square boxing gym and fencing room; four varsity locker rooms; squash and racquetball courts, and the athletic ticket office. The arena was named in honor Edward Leede, class of 1949, one of the school's leading basketball scorers, and was built to replace the old Alumni Gym, next door to the sports center. The New Hampshire Wildcats men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of New Hampshire. History Early years The first New Hampshire ice hockey team played in January 1925, winning its first two games in a contest held in Lewiston, Maine. A year later, under the stewardship of Ernest Christensen, UNH played its first home game at the UNH ice rink, an outdoor facility that was completely dependent on cold weather for its surface. The Dartmouth Big Green men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents Dartmouth College. The Big Green are a member of ECAC Hockey. They play at the Thompson Arena in Hanover, New Hampshire. History Early years Dartmouth College fielded their first ice hockey team in January 1906, winning their first game 4–3. The team played an expanded schedule the next two years but after a 1–5–1 finish in 1908 the program hired its first head coach and promptly posted a 10–3–1 record. The ice hockey club would bring in a new bench boss each year until 1912 when Fred Rocque stayed for three seasons followed by Clarence Wanamaker with four. Boston Garden
The Boston Garden was an arena in Boston, Massachusetts. Designed by boxing promoter Tex Rickard, who also built the third iteration of New York's Madison Square Garden, it opened on November 17, 1928, as "Boston Madison Square Garden" (later shortened to just "Boston Garden") and outlived its original namesake by 30 years.
