Darryl Prebble
Darryl Prebble (born March 9, 1978) is a Canadian curler. Prebble has curled off and on the World Curling Tour since 1999. He has played with skips such as Pat Ferris, Greg Balsdon, Peter Steski, Peter Corner and John Epping. He also skipped in his own right from 2008 to 2010. He currently skips a team on the Ontario Curling Tour. Prebble has played in three Grand Slam events, all as John Epping's second in the 2010-11 curling season. His first Grand Slam was the 2010 Swiss Chalet National where the Epping rink missed the playoffs with a 2-3 record. Their next Grand Slam was the 2011 BDO Canadian Open where they again finished the round robin with a 2-3 record. However, this was good enough for a tie breaker, which the team lost to Rob Fowler. Prebble's final slam was at the 2011 Players' Championship where the team was eliminated in four games after posting just one win. 2013 The Dominion Tankard
The 2013 Dominion Tankard, southern Ontario's men's provincial curling championship, was held from February 4 to 10 at the Barrie Molson Centre in Barrie, Ontario. The winning team of Glenn Howard will represent Ontario at the 2013 Tim Hortons Brier in Edmonton, Alberta. Howard won his 15th provincial championship, and continued his record 8th straight title by defeating Joe Frans in the final. The Dominion Tankard
The Ontario Tankard is the Southern Ontario provincial championship for men's curling. The winner represents Team Ontario at the Tim Hortons Brier. The tournament is overseen by CurlON (formerly the Ontario Curling Association). Northern Ontario has its own provincial championship, known as the Northern Ontario Men's Provincial Curling Championship. This championship is not to be confused with the Silver Tankard, historically also known as the Ontario Tankard (and until 1937 a Brier qualifier). 2011 Players' Championship
The 2011 GP Car and Home Players' Championship was a Grand Slam curling bonspiel held at the Crystal Centre in Grande Prairie, Alberta from April 12–17. It features a men's and women's draw, where the top sixteen teams from the Order of Merit rankings for the 2010-11 curling season are invited to compete. It was the final Grand Slam event for the season, and one of the last curling events for the season. The purse for the men's and women's event was CAD$100,000 each. On the men's side, Kevin Martin won his record seventh Players' championship with a win over Niklas Edin in seven ends, while Jennifer Jones secured her fourth Players' championship with a win over Ontario junior champion Rachel Homan after a big eighth end. Rob Fowler (curler)
Robert Fowler (born June 25, 1975 in Brandon, Manitoba) is a Canadian curler. Career Fowler was a member of the Jeff Stoughton rink from 2006 to 2010. He was a member of the team at the 2009 Tim Hortons Brier which lost in the final to Kevin Martin. Prior to playing with Stoughton, Fowler played for such skips as Allan Lyburn, Kerry Burtnyk and Brent Scales. Fowler has played in four Briers. In addition to the 2009 Brier, he also played in the 2007 Tim Hortons Brier, 2010 Tim Hortons Brier and 2012 Tim Hortons Brier. As a skip, he led his team into the 2012 Safeway Championship as the tenth ranked team in the World Curling Tour. Riding on this win Fowler and the team went on to upset first Stoughton and then the number one ranked Mike McEwen in the final game to win his first provincial championship as a skip. 2011 BDO Canadian Open Of Curling (January)
The 2011 BDO Canadian Open of Curling was held from January 26–30 at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa, Ontario. This event was the third men's Grand Slam event in the 2010-11 curling season. The purse for this event was CAD$100,000. 18 men's teams will be playing for eight quarterfinal spots in a round-robin competition. The competition was marked by an interesting turn of events when the Thomas Ulsrud rink failed to win a game against Peter Corner. Team Ulsrud's loss created an eight-way tie in 2–3 win–loss records, prompting a draw shot challenge and the scheduling of two tiebreakers. Team Ulsrud, as well as Team Corner, Team Middaugh, and Team Higgs, failed to advance in the draw shot challenge, leaving Team Epping, Team Fowler, Team Bice and Team Walchuk to participate in the tiebreakers. Grand Slam (curling)
The Grand Slam of Curling (branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that are a part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. Ontario Curling Tour
The Ontario Curling Tour is a group of curling bonspiels, which takes places in Ontario, Canada and attracts some of the top male and female curlers in the province, and from across the country and world. The OCT was designed to promote competitive curling from a grass root level. The events for the Ontario Curling Tour begin at the end of August and typically run until December, with occasional events taking place in January. Several of the events on the Ontario Curling Tour are also included in the World Curling Tour. All events on the Ontario Curling Tour, much like those on World Curling Tour, contain a prize purse for the winning teams, and award CTRS (Canadian Team Ranking System) points to the Canadian teams competing.
