Daphne Arthur
Daphne Arthur (born in 1984, Caracas, Venezuela) is a contemporary artist. Her artwork focuses on a combination of painting, sculpture, drawing, and uses smoke, paint, clay, and collage. Biography and education Daphne Arthur (b. 1984, Caracas, Caracas, Venezuela) centers her practice on the experimentation and transformation of conventional materials and forms. Drawing from her background, the Afro-Venezuelan artist explores the roles history, memory, and mythology play in the transformation or deterioration of the collective imaginary of the Black diaspora. Arthur received her BFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2007, and an MFA from the Yale School of Art in 2009. In 2020, she presented a solo exhibition titled “In The Eye of The World,” curated by Julia Marsh at Cedar Crest College, Philadelphia. Caracas
Caracas (, ), officially Santiago de León de Caracas, abbreviated as CCS, is the capital and largest city of Venezuela, and the center of the Metropolitan Region of Caracas (or Greater Caracas). Caracas is located along the Guaire River in the northern part of the country, within the Caracas Valley of the Venezuelan coastal mountain range (Cordillera de la Costa). The valley is close to the Caribbean Sea, separated from the coast by a steep 2,200-meter-high (7,200 ft) mountain range, Cerro El Ávila; to the south there are more hills and mountains. The Metropolitan Region of Caracas has an estimated population of almost 5 million inhabitants.
