Danycoed Halt
Danycoed Halt, which is Welsh for below the trees, was built by the Gwili Railway in the late 1990s and opened in 2001. It is the current northern terminus of the line, but may become redundant when the preserved railway extends over a mile northwards into the nearby Conwyl station site and then further on up to Llanpumpsaint Station some 2½ miles further on. The halt (along with a nearby "Llwyfan Cerrig" station) did not exist in British Railways days and currently features a four-coach platform, a typical GWR storage hut and other station furniture such as lamp posts and benches. The track layout consists of a simple "run-round" loop (designed to allow the locomotive to run around and couple up to the carriages for the return journey) with a pair of points controlled by a "single throw" lever at the northern end, and a pair controlled by a two-lever ground frame locked by a key on the train staff at the southern end. Gwili Railway
The Gwili Railway (Welsh: ''Rheilffordd Gwili'') is a Welsh heritage railway, that operates a preserved standard gauge railway line from the site of Abergwili Junction (near Carmarthen) in southwest Wales along a section of the former Carmarthen to Aberystwyth line. The original railway closed in 1965, with the track being lifted in 1975. Original line The broad-gauge railway was opened in 1860 from Carmarthen to Conwil (now Cynwyl) by the ill-fated Carmarthen and Cardigan Railway Company (CCR), which fell in and out of insolvency until it was eventually absorbed by the Great Western Railway. Cynwyl Elfed
Cynwyl Elfed (; sometimes Conwyl and formerly anglicised as Conwil Elvet or Conwil in Elvet) is a village and community in the county of Carmarthenshire, Wales. The community includes the villages of Cynwyl Elfed, Blaenycoed and Cwmduad. It is situated about north of Carmarthen and had a population of 953 in 2001, increasing to 1,044 at the 2011 Census. The area around the village has yielded a significant number of Roman artefacts, including a statue of Diana. It was the most important centre of the commote of Elfed in the Middle Ages. Llanpumpsaint
Llanpumsaint (; Welsh "Llan" church + "pum" five + "saint" saint(s)) is a village and community in Carmarthenshire, Wales. In the 2001 UK Census, Llanpumsaint community had a population of 595. It is not to be confused with Pumsaint, a small village some distance away on the River Cothi. The population increased in 2011 to 734, and thus the percentage of Welsh speakers declined. Llanpumsaint community comprises the neighbouring hamlet of Nebo, the spiritual community and temple at Skanda Vale and a number of farms. According to the 2001 Census, 50% of those living in Llanpumsaint community are able to speak, read and write Welsh, this is well above the 39% average recorded for Carmarthenshire in the same census. Great Western Railway
The Great Western Railway (GWR) was a British railway company that linked London with the southwest, west and West Midlands of England and most of Wales. Mechanical railway signalling installations rely on lever frames for their operation to interlock the signals, track locks and points to allow the safe operation of trains in the area the signals control. In railway signalling, a token is a physical object which a train driver is required to have or see before entering onto a particular section of single track. The token is clearly endorsed with the names of the section it belongs to. A token system is more commonly used for single lines because of the greater risk of collision in the event of a mistake being made by a signaller or traincrew, than on double lines. Conwil Railway Station
Conwil was a railway station near the village of Cynwyl Elfed in Carmarthenshire, Wales, serving the hamlet and the rural locale. It was once a thriving railway station, transporting both passenger traffic and locally produced goods, including wool, livestock, milk and timber. History The Teifi Valley Railway was originally operated by the Carmarthen and Cardigan Railway between Carmarthen and Cynwyl Elfed. In 1864, the line was extended to Pencader and Llandysul.
