Danny Toner
Daniel Toner (born 1992) is a hurling player who plays as a midfielder for the Down senior team. Born in the Ards Peninsula, Toner first played competitive hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Ballygalget club. He subsequently won four county championship medals with the club's senior team. Toner made his debut on the inter-county scene when he was selected for the Down minor team in 2008. He played for three championship seasons with the minor team, before later joining the Down under-21 team. Toner made his senior debut during the 2011 league, winning a Christy Ring Cup medal in 2013. Down GAA
The Down County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae An Dún) or Down GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Down, Northern Ireland. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Down county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. The county football team was the second from the province of Ulster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), following Cavan, and also the first team from Northern Ireland to win the Sam Maguire Cup since partition, doing so in 1960. Ards Peninsula
The Ards Peninsula () is a peninsula in County Down, Northern Ireland, on the north-east coast of Ireland. It separates Strangford Lough from the North Channel of the Irish Sea. Towns and villages on the peninsula include Donaghadee, Millisle, Portavogie and Portaferry. The large towns of Newtownards and Bangor are at the mainland edge of the peninsula. Burr Point is the easternmost point on the island of Ireland. County Down () is one of the six counties of Northern Ireland, one of the nine counties of Ulster and one of the traditional thirty-two counties of Ireland. Down Senior Hurling Championship
The Down Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Morgan Fuels Down GAA Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Down SHC) is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Down GAA clubs. The Down County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1903. Ballycran are the title holders (2021) defeating Portaferry in the Final after extra time. The 2011 National Hurling League (known as the Allianz Hurling League for sponsorship reasons) was the 80th season of the National Hurling League. Ticket prices In January 2011, the GAA announced a reduction in ticket prices for the 2011 National Hurling League. The decision to cut prices was announced at a Central Council meeting and will see the cost of admission to a league game in the first division of the NHL dropping from €15 to €13, with a €5 admission to lower-level hurling games. The Christy Ring Cup () is an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. Originally introduced as a second-tier competition, it is currently the third tier overall in the inter-county hurling championship system. Each year, the champions of the Christy Ring Cup are promoted to the Joe McDonagh Cup, and the lowest finishing team is relegated to the Nicky Rackard Cup. Kildare are the 2022 title-holders. The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Ulster Senior Hurling Championship
The Ulster GAA Hurling Senior Championship, known simply as the Ulster Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Ulster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in the province of Ulster, and has been contested every year since the 1901 championship. The final, usually held in July, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during June, and the results determine which team receives the Liam Harvey Cup. The 2013 Christy Ring Cup was the ninth staging of the Christy Ring Cup hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 2005. The cup competition began on 4 May 2013 and ended on 8 June 2013. London were defending champions, however, they were promoted to the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship.
