Daniel Metropolis (born 17 March 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles and the Fremantle Dockers between 1992 and 2001. Career The son of former Subiaco player Peter Metropolis, he was drafted from Subiaco in the WAFL with selection 16 in the 1991 AFL Draft . He starred in his debut game in 1992 against St Kilda, kicking 6 goals, including four goals with his first four kicks in the AFL. This was his highest goal scoring game, spending most of the remainder of his career playing as a defender. Subiaco Football Club
The Subiaco Football Club, nicknamed the Lions and known before 1973 as the ''Maroons'', is an Australian rules football club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW). It was founded in 1896, and admitted to the WAFL in 1901, along with North Fremantle. The club is currently based at Leederville Oval, having previously played at Subiaco Oval. History Subiaco was incorporated in 1896, establishing its base at a small playing arena within the environs of the Shenton Park Lake. The West Australian Football League (WAFL) is an Australian rules football league based in Perth, Western Australia. The league currently consists of ten teams, which play each other in a 20-round season usually lasting from March to September, with the top five teams playing off in a finals series, culminating in a Grand Final. The West Coast Eagles are a professional Australian rules football club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club was founded in 1986 as one of two expansion teams in the Australian Football League (AFL), then known as the Victorian Football League. Subiaco Oval (; nicknamed Subi) was a sports stadium in Perth, Western Australia, located in the suburb of Subiaco. It was opened in 1908 and closed in 2017 after the completion of the new Perth Stadium in Burswood. Subiaco Oval was the highest capacity stadium in Western Australia and one of the main stadiums in Australia, with a final capacity of 43,500 people. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Peter Metropolis
Peter James Metropolis (born 29 June 1944) is a former Australian rules football player and administrator. He played 159 games for the Subiaco Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL), including the 1973 premiership, and later served as president of the club. Biography Born in Perth, Western Australia, Metropolis began his football career at Wembley JFC. He attended Scotch College in Swanbourne, playing in the school's football First XVIII. He then went to the University of Western Australia where he played for the university's football team, winning the colts best and fairest and the senior best and fairest in consecutive seasons, playing mainly as a wingman. Falling into Subiaco's recruitment zone, he made his debut in 1965, and was switched to the centre the next season. Metropolis finished equal with Ross Gosden in the Outridge Medal, Subiaco's best and fairest, but Gosden was awarded the medal on countback. Greg Harding
Greg Harding (born 17 September 1976) is an Australian rules footballer. He played for both the Fremantle Football Club and the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted by Fremantle from Claremont in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) as a zone selection in the 1995 AFL Draft and played mainly as a defender. He made his AFL debut in the opening round Western Derby in 1996. In round 4 of that year, he was awarded the weekly nomination for the AFL Rising Star award. In 1997 he had his best season for Fremantle, playing in 18 games and coming fifth in the club's best and fairest award. Injuries and poor form hampered his career after 1997, and he played only a further 33 games in the next three seasons for Fremantle before being traded to the West Coast Eagles in return for Daniel Metropolis and a draft selection that would be used to draft Dion Woods.
