Dandenong Cricket Club
The Dandenong Cricket Club is an Australian cricket club based in Dandenong, Victoria, an outer-city suburb of Melbourne. They play in Victorian Premier Cricket, the highest competition in the state. History In 1989, Hawthorn/East Melbourne relocated to Glen Waverley in the eastern suburbs, and was later renamed Hawthorn/Waverley in 1994. The move of Hawthorn/East Melbourne caused Waverley to move to Dandenong, and the new team played as Waverley/Dandenong, but dropped Waverley from its name for the 1994–95 season. Dandenong currently use Shepley Oval as their home ground. The club's most successful season came in 2006/7 when it won its first Premier Cricket Premiership. The side included Peter Siddle, Darren Pattinson and Warren Ayres. Dandenong won its second flag in 2010/11 vs. Frankston Heat. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). Means of dismissal include being bowled, when the ball hits the stumps and dislodges the bails, and by the fielding side either catching the ball after it is hit by the bat, but before it hits the ground, or hitting a wicket with the ball before a batter can cross the crease in front of the wicket. Victorian Premier Cricket
Victorian Premier Cricket is a club cricket competition in the state of Victoria administered by Cricket Victoria. Each club fields four teams (firsts through to fourths) of adult players and usually play on weekends and public holidays. Matches are played on turf wickets under limited-time rules, with most results being decided on a first-innings basis. Outstanding players in the competition are selected to play for the Victorian Bushrangers at first-class and List A level, in the Sheffield Shield and Marsh One Day Cup competitions respectively. The competition commenced in the 1906–07 season when it was known as "District cricket", and was renamed in 1990. Separate competitions for one-day matches (2002–03) and Twenty20 (2005–06) were later established. Shepley Oval
Shepley Oval is a football and cricket field located in Dandenong in south-eastern Melbourne. It presently serves as the home ground of the Dandenong Cricket Club in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition, and of the Dandenong Stingrays in the TAC Cup football competition. Shepley Oval is located at the eastern end of Dandenong Park, immediately north of the Dandenong Creek. The parkland was used for sports in the late 19th century, but throughout the early half of the 20th century until the 1960s, the premier venue for sports in Dandenong was the Dandenong Showgrounds (which at that time was located in Clow Street, the site presently occupied by the Dandenong Municipal Offices). Shepley Oval was developed to a top standard oval in the late 1950s, with a grandstand being opened in 1959, and it has been the region's premier sports venue since the 1960s. Warren Ayres
Warren Ayres (born 25 October 1965) is an Australian former cricketer. He played 46 first-class cricket matches for Victoria between 1988 and 1997. Ayres holds the record for most career runs in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition, scoring 15,277 runs at an average of 42.43 in nineteen seasons for Melbourne and six seasons for Dandenong between 1983/84 and 2007/08. Peter Siddle
Peter Matthew Siddle (born 25 November 1984) is an Australian cricketer. He is a specialist right-arm fast-medium bowler who currently plays for Tasmania in first-class and List A cricket and for the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League. He has played Test cricket for Australia over an eight-year period from 2008 to 2016, before being recalled for the Test series against Pakistan in 2018. Peter Siddle retired from International cricket in December 2019. Early in Siddle's career he faced injury problems, but he overcame them in 2009 to be named the ICC Emerging Player of the Year. Darren John Pattinson (born 2 August 1979) is an English former cricketer who played for Victoria and Nottinghamshire. Pattinson received considerable press coverage when he was surprisingly selected for the England cricket team in July 2008 for the 2nd Test against South Africa at Headingley. Former England captain Graham Gooch described his selection as "one of the most leftfield decisions I've ever seen". Cameron White
Cameron Leon White (born 18 August 1983) is an Australian former international cricketer who captained the national side in Twenty20 Internationals. A powerful middle order batsman and right-arm leg-spin bowler, White made his first-class cricket debut as a teenager in the 2000–01 season for the Victoria cricket team as a bowling all-rounder. In 2003–04, he became Victoria's youngest ever captain at the age of 20 when he took over leadership of their one-day side, and the first-class captaincy followed the season after. Ian Joseph Harvey (born 10 April 1972) is a former Australian cricketer. He was an all-rounder who played 73 One Day Internationals for Australia and was named as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year for 2004 for his performances in county cricket. James Pattinson
James Lee Pattinson (born 3 May 1990) is an Australian cricketer. Pattinson is considered an aggressive fast bowler. After making his Test cricket debut in late 2011, he played Test and limited overs cricket for the Australia national cricket team, although his appearances were limited due to back injuries.
