Dance Valley
Dance Valley ("The Woodstock of Dance") is an annual dance music festival organised by United Dance Company (UDC) in the summer in Spaarnwoude, Netherlands. The first edition was in 1995 when 8,000 people attended (and in 2001 90,000 visitors). Dance Valley grew rapidly, both in duration and number of visitors. History The idea for a dance music festival in daylight was a revolutionary concept in the early nineties and it took the organizers several years before they made it a reality. After trying to get funding via the largest concert organizer in The Netherlands Mojo (now LiveNation Netherlands), they raised the money independently and organised their first festival in 1995. 2005 was the first time the event lasted 3 days in the weekend with camping available for the concertgoers at the campsite. Spaarnwoude
Spaarnwoude is a village in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Haarlemmermeer and lies about northeast of Haarlem. Overview The village was first mentioned in the first half of the 11th century as Spirnerewalt, and means "forest along the Spaarne river". The former Dutch Reformed church dates from 1764, but has a tower from the 13th century. It was decommissioned in 1880, but is still used for cultural activities. North of Spaarnwoude lies the Spaarnwoude recreation area, which is located in the municipalities of Velsen and Haarlemmermeer. There is a railway station, Haarlem Spaarnwoude, which lies southwest of the village. An IKEA shop is nearby, on the north side. To the east of IKEA is the Veerplas. Spaarnwoude was home to 443 people in 1840. It was a separate municipality until 1857, when it merged with Haarlemmerliede. Yoji Biomehanika
Yoji Biomehanika, also known as YOJI, Mutant DJ, Ozaka Oz, Bionico, Biomehanika, Yōran and The Arcade Nation is a Japanese trance/hard trance DJ. A household name in the Japanese club scene in the 1990s, Yoji entered the international scene in 2001 when he was featured in the lineup for the Dance Valley music festival in the Netherlands in front of 90,000 people. He then started headlining some of the largest international music events such as Sensation Black, Tomorrowland and Street Parade. He is now considered one of the icons of hard dance music. Style Yoji's style of music has changed throughout his career, starting off in the 1980s as Yōran, and for a time a member of Japanese punk band Laughin' Nose. Haarlemmermeer () is a municipality in the west of the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Haarlemmermeer is a polder, consisting of land reclaimed from water. The name Haarlemmermeer means ' Haarlem's lake', referring to the body of water from which the region was reclaimed in the 19th century. Hardstyle
Hardstyle is an electronic dance genre that emerged in the late 1990s, with origins in the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy. Hardstyle mixes influences from techno, new beat and hardcore. Early hardstyle was typically written at 140 BPM (''beats per minute''), however modern hardstyle is faster, produced around 150 BPM. It consisted of overdriven and hard-sounding kick drums, often accompanied by an offbeat bass, known as a "reverse bass". As the genre grew, the production techniques and songwriting changed to be suited to a more commercial audience. Modern hardstyle can be recognized by its use of synthesizer melodies and distorted sounds, coupled with hardstyle's signature combination of percussion and bass.
