Danan, Ethiopia
Danan ( so, Dhanaan) (or "Denan") is a town in the eastern part of Ethiopia known as the Ogaden. Located in the Gode Zone of the Somali Region (or ''kilil''), and it is located the main road between Gode and Kebri Dahar (Qabridahare) the nearest towns with electricity. This town was settled in 1911, and took the name of the district in 1935 during Emperor Haile-silase's rule of Ethiopia. This town has a latitude and longitude of . Overview Danan has a camp for refugees and internally displaced persons. The Ogaden region is populated mostly by ethnic Somalis and has been devastated by drought, famine and an armed separatist movement. Second Italo-Abyssinian War
The Second Italo-Ethiopian War, also referred to as the Second Italo-Abyssinian War, was a war of aggression which was fought between Italy and Ethiopia from October 1935 to February 1937. In Ethiopia it is often referred to simply as the Italian Invasion ( am, ጣልያን ወረራ), and in Italy as the Ethiopian War ( it, Guerra d'Etiopia). Danan ( so, Dhanan) is one of the districts in the Somali Region of Ethiopia, named after its major town, Danan. Part of the Gode Zone, Danan is bordered on the south by Gode, on the west by Imiberi, on the north by the Fiq Zone, and on the east by the Korahe Zone. Demographics Based on the 2007 Census conducted by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia (CSA), this woreda has a total population of 23,784, of whom 13,274 are men and 10,510 women. While 6,135 or 25.8% are urban inhabitants, a further 7,728 or 32.49% are pastoralists. 99.07% of the population said they were Muslim. The Central Statistical Agency (CSA; Amharic: ማዕከላዊ ስታቲስቲክስ ኤጀንሲ) is an agency of the government of Ethiopia designated to provide all surveys and censuses for that country used to monitor economic and social growth, as well as to act as an official training center in that field. It is part of the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. The Director General of the CSA is Samia Zekaria. Before 9 March 1989 the CSA was known as the Central Statistical Office (CSO). The CSA has 25 branch offices. Mohamed Sirad Dolal
Dr. Mohamed Sirad Dolal () was an academic and a member of the central committee and executive council of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), a liberation movement in Ogaden determined to free its homeland from Ethiopia. Early life and education Dolal was born and raised in Qabri Dahar, Qorahay Province, in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Mohamed Siraad Dolaal's parents died when he was a child, and he grew up as an orphan, although his uncle, Mohamud Dolaal, took over the responsibility of taking care of him and enrolled him in school a year after his father's death. Mohamed Sirad Dolal was born with three of his sisters and had six daughters and a son. Dr. Dolal's father was killed by the Ethiopian military in a war in 1964 when Dolal was only 9 years old. Ogaden National Liberation Front
The Ogaden National Liberation Front (abbreviated ONLF, so, Jabhadda Wadaniga Xoreynta Ogaadeeniya; ar, الجبهة الوطنية لتحرير أوجادين) is a social and political movement, founded in 1984 to campaign for the right to self-determination for Somalis in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Rodolfo Graziani, 1st Marquis of Neghelli (; 11 August 1882 – 11 January 1955), was a prominent Italian military officer in the Kingdom of Italy's ''Regio Esercito'' ("Royal Army"), primarily noted for his campaigns in Africa before and during World War II.
