Dan Kennedy (hurler, Born 1925)
Daniel Kennedy (1925 – 6 February 1976) was an Irish sportsman. He is best known as a hurler for several teams Thomastown, Dicksboro and Bennettsbridge clubs and was a member of the Kilkenny senior inter-county team in the 1940s and 1950s. Dan Kennedy captained Kilkenny in 1947. Playing career Club Kennedy first played hurling with his local Thomastown club and enjoyed some success. In 1946 it was with Thomastown that he won his first county title. Kennedy later joined the Dicksboro club and won a second county medal in 1950, however, it was with the famous Bennettsbridge club that he became really successful. He added more county medals to his collection in 1952, 1953, 1955 and 1956. Inter-county Kennedy first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling team in the mid-1940s. The Leinster Council is a provincial council of the Gaelic Athletic Association sports of hurling, Gaelic football, camogie, rounders and handball in the province of Leinster. Bennettsbridge Hurlers
Bennettsbridge () is a village in County Kilkenny in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. It is situated on the River Nore south of Kilkenny city, in the centre of the county. Bennettsbridge is a census town, and has population of 745 as of the 2016 census. The village is on the R700 road (Ireland), R700 road at a stone bridge crossing of the Nore between Kilkenny and Thomastown. It has become a craft centre in recent years, with several pottery and craft producers located at the old mill beside the weir. Thomastown (), historically known as Grennan, is a town in County Kilkenny in the province of Leinster in the south-east of Ireland. Christy Ring
Nicholas Christopher Michael Ring (30 October 1920 – 2 March 1979) was an Irish hurling, hurler whose National Hurling League, league and All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, championship career at senior level with the Cork county hurling team, Cork county team spanned twenty-four years from 1939 to 1963. He established many All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship records and statistics, championship records, including career appearances (65), scoring tally (33-208) and number of All-Ireland medals won (8); however, these records were subsequently bested by a number of players. In team sport, captain is a title given to a member of the team. The title is frequently honorary, but in some cases the captain may have significant responsibility for strategy and teamwork while the game is in progress on the field. Jim Ware (hurler)
James Patrick Ware (23 February 1908 – 18 July 1983) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played for Erin's Own, captaining the club on a number of occasions, and was the captain of the Waterford senior hurling team that won the 1948 All-Ireland Championship. Widely regarded as one of the Erin's Own club's all-time greats, Ware's career lasted for over twenty years. During that time he won 12 Waterford Senior Championship medals, including a record nine championships in-a-row between 1927 and 1935. Ware made his first appearance for the Waterford senior hurling team during the 1927 Munster Championship and enjoyed his greatest successes as a goalkeeper over the following two decades. In 1948, at the age of 40, he became the oldest player to lift the Liam MacCarthy Cup when Waterford won their first All-Ireland Championship, having earlier captained the team to the Munster Championship title.
