Dan Daniels (politician)
Daniel Zederayko Daniels (November 8, 1908 – November 11, 1991) was an educator, merchant, farmer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Pelly from 1944 to 1948 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) member. Life He was born near Gorlitz, Saskatchewan, the son of Daniel Daniels and Axana Hanthar, both Ukrainian immigrants to Canada. Daniels was educated in Yorkton and Regina. In 1937, he married Kathleen Franko. Daniels also taught school in Saskatchewan for 8 years. He lived in Canora. 1948 Saskatchewan General Election
The 1948 Saskatchewan general election was held on June 24, 1948, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan. The Co-operative Commonwealth Federation government of Premier Tommy Douglas was re-elected with a reduced majority in the legislature. Although the share of the popular vote won by the Liberal Party of Walter Tucker fell by almost five percentage points, the party increased its representation in the legislature from 5 seats to 19. The Social Credit Party of Saskatchewan, which had won 2 seats and 16% of the popular vote in the 1938 election – only to disappear in the 1944 election – returned to win over 8% of the vote, but no seats. The Progressive Conservative Party – now led by Rupert Ramsay – continued to decline, and was also shut out of the legislature. Yorkton is a city located in south-eastern Saskatchewan, Canada. It is about 450 kilometres north-west of Winnipeg and 300 kilometres south-east of Saskatoon and is the sixth largest city in the province. As of 2017 the census population of the city was 19,643. Saskatchewan New Democratic Party
The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It currently forms the official opposition, but has been a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics since the 1940s. The party is the successor to the Saskatchewan section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), and is affiliated with the federal New Democratic Party. The objective of this group was to lobby for farmer's rights with the grain trade and the railways.
