Damon D'Oliveira
Damon D'Oliveira is a Canadians, Canadian actor and film and television producer, best known as a partner with Clement Virgo in the production firm Conquering Lion Pictures. Originally from Guyana, D'Oliveira moved to Canada in 1976. He had acting roles in stage, film and television in the 1980s, and was credited as an associate producer on Darrell Wasyk's 1990 film ''H (1990 film), H'', before being admitted into the Canadian Film Centre's program for filmmakers of colour in 1991 alongside classmates including Virgo, Robert Adetuyi, Mina Shum and Stephen Williams (director), Stephen Williams. His first film production credit was on Virgo's 1993 short film ''Save My Lost Nigga Soul''. Co-written with Nova Scotian writer/director Chaz Thorne (''Just Buried''), it is the story of class struggle, racial tensions, and boxing, set in the Canadian east coast port city of Halifax, Nova Scotia. ''Neon Rider'' is a Canadian drama television series which first aired between 1990 and 1995. Created by Winston Rekert and Danny Virtue, the show was about the title character, a psychologist named Michael Terry (Rekert) who, after writing a successful book on adolescent psychology, purchases his childhood friend's family ranch just outside of Mission, British Columbia to open a therapeutic residential treatment program for troubled and abused teens. ''Tales from the Cryptkeeper'' is an animated horror children's television series made by Canadian studio Nelvana. The series was broadcast on YTV in Canada and on ABC in the United States, and on ITV in the United Kingdom. It was based on the 1950s EC Comics series ''Tales from the Crypt'' and the live action television series of the same name, which aired concurrently on HBO. Intended for children, ''Tales from the Cryptkeeper'' was significantly milder than its live action version and all blood and gore, profanity and sexual content were completely removed in order to target the audience. Genie Award
The Genie Awards were given out annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize the best of Canadian cinema from 1980–2012. They succeeded the Canadian Film Awards (1949–1978; also known as the "Etrog Awards," for sculptor Sorel Etrog, who designed the statuette). Genie Award candidates were selected from submissions made by the owners of Canadian films or their representatives, based on the criteria laid out in the ''Genie Rules and Regulations'' booklet which is distributed to Academy members and industry members. The film, based on an early 18th century court record from Cape Town, explores the romantic relationship between two prisoners, one black and one white, at Robben Island in South Africa in the 18th century.
