Daly, Northern Territory
__NOTOC__ Daly is a locality in the Northern Territory of Australia located about south-east of the territory capital of Darwin. Daly is located on land on the north side of the Adelaide River. The locality was named after the Town of Daly which was surveyed in 1869 and was never occupied or used as a town and whose name was derived from the Daly Range, a nearby geographical feature which was named in 1862 after Dominick Daly, the then Governor of South Australia. Its boundaries and name were gazetted on 29 October 1997. The 2016 Australian census which was conducted in August 2016 reports that Daly had no people living within its boundaries. The Litchfield Council is a local government area of the Northern Territory of Australia on the eastern and southeastern outskirts of the Darwin-Palmerston urban area. The municipality covers an area of , and was created by the Northern Territory government on 6 September 1985. Electoral Division Of Nelson (Northern Territory)
Nelson is an electoral division of the Legislative Assembly in Australia's Northern Territory. It was first created in 1990 as a replacement for Koolpinyah, and was named after Harold Nelson, the first member for the federal Northern Territory electorate. Nelson is a largely rural electorate, covering 1,415 km² and taking in the small towns of Howard Springs, McMinn's Lagoon and part of Humpty Doo, and some areas between Darwin and Palmerston. There were 5,505 people enrolled in the electorate as of August 2020. Nelson is also a rarity among Northern Territory electorates in that it has traditionally been an independent-held seat, as opposed to being held by either of the major parties. The Division of Lingiari is an Australian electoral division in the Northern Territory that covers the entirety of the territory outside of the Division of Solomon, which covers Darwin and surrounding areas. The division also includes the Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Lingiari includes all of the Northern Territory's remote Indigenous communities, most of whom vote when visited by mobile polling teams during the election campaign. The locality consists of land bounded in part to the west by the Adelaide River, in part to the north by the coastline of Van Diemen Gulf and in part to the east by the Mary River. The locality was named after the Marrakai pastoral station whose name is considered to be an amalgamation of a local Aboriginal word "kie", meaning river, and a corruption of the English word "Mary", usually used as a woman's first name. Acacia Hills is an outer rural locality of Darwin. It is south of the Darwin CBD in Litchfield Municipality. Dominick Daly
Sir Dominick Daly (11 August 1798 – 19 February 1868) was the Governor of Prince Edward Island from 11 July 1854 to 25 May 1859 and later Governor of South Australia from 4 March 1862 until his death on 19 February 1868. He was born in Ardfry, County Galway, Ireland in 1798, the son of Dominic Daly senior and third son of Joanna Harriet Blake, sister of Joseph Blake, 1st Baron Wallscourt and widow of Richard Burke of Glinsk.
