''Dallina'' is a genus of small to average size lampshells (maximum long). It is known since the Miocene. Description Small to large, triangular to subquadrangular in outline; rectimarginate to paraplicate; beak erect, without beak ridges; foramen small to large, mesothyrid, attrite, symphytium concave. Hinge teeth small, weak; pedicle collar very short. Jaffaia
''Jaffaia'' is a monotypic genus of brachiopods belonging to the family Dallinidae. The only species is ''Jaffaia jaffaensis'' from southern Australia. Description ''J. jaffaensis'' reaches a maximum length of 23.4 mm and fits the following diagnosis: Overall outline ovoid to circular, relatively thin laterally and with commissures (junction between the dorsal and ventral shells/valves) straight, anterior commissure rectimarginate to lightly sulcate. Beak (posterior point of shell) suberect, with deltidial plates conjunct (as symphytium) and mostly exposed, and bearing a small foramen. Hinge teeth large relative to symphytium, with swollen bases (not supported by 'dental plates'). Cardinalia with inner and outer hinge plates separated by thick crural bases, inner hinge plates forming a V-shaped septalium supported by median septum. Terebratulida
Terebratulids are one of only three living orders of articulate brachiopods, the others being the Rhynchonellida and the Thecideida. Craniida and Lingulida include living brachiopods, but are inarticulates. The name, Terebratula, may be derived from the Latin "terebra", meaning "hole-borer". The perceived resemblance of terebratulid shells to ancient Roman oil lamps gave the brachiopods their common name "lamp shell". Terebratulids typically have biconvex shells that are usually ovoid to circular in outline. They can be either smooth or have radial ribbing. The lophophore support is loop shaped in contrast to the spiralia of similar looking spiriferids. Terebratulids are also distinguished by a very short hinge line, and the shell is punctate in microstructure. There is a circular pedicle opening, or foramen, located in the beak. Brachiopods (), phylum Brachiopoda, are a phylum of trochozoan animals that have hard "valves" (shells) on the upper and lower surfaces, unlike the left and right arrangement in bivalve molluscs. Brachiopod valves are hinged at the rear end, while the front can be opened for feeding or closed for protection. Two major categories are traditionally recognized, articulate and inarticulate brachiopods. The word "articulate" is used to describe the tooth-and-groove structures of the valve-hinge which is present in the articulate group, and absent from the inarticulate group. This is the leading diagnostic skeletal feature, by which the two main groups can be readily distinguished as fossils. Articulate brachiopods have toothed hinges and simple, vertically-oriented opening and closing muscles.
