Daemyung Sangmu
The Daemyung Sangmu was a professional ice hockey team based in Seoul, South Korea. The club played in the Asia League Ice Hockey (ALIH). Sangmu (상무, 尙武) is the sports division of the Military of South Korea. Team history Sangmu was established in 2012 by Korean government to prepare for the 2018 Pyeongchang winter Olympics. This team was made up of several players serving their two-year military service and therefore were unable to maintain practice and playing with their respective clubs, while conscripted. In its first season, 17 players played for Sangmu. Most players belonged to South Korea's national team. Sangmu, being a military team, unlike the other two Korean teams, Anyang Halla and High1, were not able to bring in any foreign imports, or trade for any players, nor could their players be traded to other teams. Mok-dong is a ward of Yangcheon-gu, located in the west of Seoul, South Korea. Asia League Ice Hockey
Asia League Ice Hockey ( ja, アジアリーグアイスホッケー; ko, 아시아리그 아이스하키) or ALIH (AL) is an association which operates a professional ice hockey league based in East Asia, with teams from Japan, South Korea, and formerly Russia. The league is headquartered in Japan. At the end of the playoffs every year the winner is awarded the Championship Trophy. The league was formed in 2003 due to declining popularity in the Japan Ice Hockey League and the folding of the Korean Ice Hockey League. It was formed with the goal of promoting hockey and developing players' skills. The league initially comprised five teams in two countries. Mokdong Stadium
The Mokdong Stadium () is a South Korean sports complex located in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. It consists of a multi-purpose stadium, a baseball stadium, and an artificial ice rink. It was opened on 14 November 1989. The main stadium hosted K League football matches from 1996 to 2001. Conscription In South Korea
Conscription in South Korea has existed since 1957 and requires male citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 to perform compulsory military service. Women are not required to perform military service, but they may voluntarily join the military. Establishment The basis for military conscription in South Korea is the Constitution of the Republic of Korea, which was promulgated on 17 July 1948. The constitution states in Article 39, "All citizens shall have the duty of national defense under the conditions as prescribed by Act." In addition, the conscription is defined and acted by the "Military Service Act" (병역법). South Korea Men's National Ice Hockey Team
The South Korean national ice hockey team ( ko, 대한민국 아이스하키 국가대표팀) is the national men's ice hockey team of the Republic of Korea (South Korea). They are currently ranked 19th in the IIHF World Rankings and competed in the World Championship top division tournament. The team's most successful campaign thus far was a second-place finish in the 2017 Division I Group A tournament and thus qualifying for the top division in 2018.
