Asia League Ice Hockey ( ja, アジアリーグアイスホッケー; ko, 아시아리그 아이스하키) or ALIH (AL) is an association which operates a professional ice hockey league based in East Asia, with teams from Japan, South Korea, and formerly Russia. The league is headquartered in Japan. At the end of the playoffs every year the winner is awarded the Championship Trophy. The league was formed in 2003 due to declining popularity in the Japan Ice Hockey League and the folding of the Korean Ice Hockey League. It was formed with the goal of promoting hockey and developing players' skills. The league initially comprised five teams in two countries. It expanded to highs of four countries (2004–05 season) and nine teams (2005–06 season) and it comprised eight teams from three countries in the 2013–14 season. Mokdong Stadium
The Mokdong Stadium () is a South Korean sports complex located in Mok-dong, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. It consists of a multi-purpose stadium, a baseball stadium, and an artificial ice rink. It was opened on 14 November 1989. The main stadium hosted K League football matches from 1996 to 2001. 2016–17 Asia League Ice Hockey Season
The 2016–17 Asia League Ice Hockey season was the 14th season of Asia League Ice Hockey. The league consisted of nine teams from China, Japan, Russia, and South Korea. A new team for the season was the Daemyung Killer Whales. Daemyung Sangmu left the league. In addition, two more teams from China applied to join the league prior to this season. The 2019–20 Asia League Ice Hockey season was the seventeenth season of Asia League Ice Hockey. PSK Sakhalin and Anyang Halla were named joint champions after the league cancelled the Finals due to concerns from the COVID-19 pandemic.
