Daddy Long Legs (1938 Film)
''Daddy Long Legs'' or '' Vadertje Langbeen '' is a 1938 in film, 1938 Netherlands, Dutch romantic comedy film directed by Frederic Zelnik, based on Jean Webster's 1912 novel Daddy-Long-Legs (novel), of the same name - one of several adaptations of that book (see below). Plot Judy Aalders grows up in a strict orphanage, supervised by Mrs. Lippens. Although all the other orphans look up to her, she suffers from the heavy existence. The only way she gets through her long working days is her dreams of a better future. During an inspection, she is blamed for making a mocking drawing. She denies being responsible for the mischief and says she feels she has lived in prison all her life. Director Woudenberg witnesses her confrontation against the board and shows sympathy. He decides to adopt her and offers her the opportunity to study. Frederic Zelnik
Frederic Zelnik (born Friedrich Zelnik, 17 May 1885 – 29 November 1950) was an Austrian producer, director, and actor. He was one of the most important producers-directors of the German silent cinema. Zelnik achieved success through period operetta films in the 1920s and 1930s. Biography Friedrich Zelnik was born into a Jews, Jewish family in Czernowitz, today in Ukraine, at the time the capital of the Duchy of Bukovina in the Austrian part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. Premise Judy Abbott is an orphan who has been given the opportunity to study at the prestigious Lincoln Memorial High School by a mysterious benefactor whom she only knows as "John Smith".
