Dada Thakur (film)
''Dada Thakur'' (also ''Dadathakur'') is a 1962 Bengali biographical film directed by Sudhir Mukherjee. It is based on the life of publisher, editor and satirist Sarat Chandra Pandit (popularly known as Dada Thakur), starring Chhabi Biswas in the title role. At the 10th National Film Awards, it won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. Plot The film is based closely on the life of the real-life Dada Thakur, and was made in his lifetime. Dada Thakur (Chhabi Biswas) starts his career with a hand-operated press, with his wife (Chhaya Devi) as his assistant. Later he is joined by Nalini Kanta Sarkar (Tarun Kumar), an underground freedom-fighter. Dada Thakur brings out the newspaper ''Jangipur Sangbad''. He campaigns against social evils and earns the ire of the ruling classes. Chhabi Biswas
Chhabi Biswas (''Chabi Biśbās'') (13 July 1900 – 11 June 1962) was an Indian actor, primarily known for his performances in Tapan Sinha's '' Kabuliwala'' and Satyajit Ray's films '' Jalshaghar'' (''The Music Room'', 1958), '' Devi'' (''The Goddess'', 1960) and ''Kanchenjungha'' (1962). He is best remembered for his numerous roles as the quintessential aristocratic patriarch, and was himself the scion of a rich and cultured North Kolkata family. He was born on 12 July 1900. His father, Bhupatinath Biswas, was well known for his charitable works. His first name was Sachindranath, but his mother nicknamed her handsome son Chhabi (a beautiful picture!) and the name stuck throughout his life and career. The 10th National Film Awards, then known as State Awards for Films, presented by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India to felicitate the best of Indian Cinema released in 1962. Ceremony took place at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on 21 April 1963 and awards were given by then President of India, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. National Film Archive Of India
The National Film Archive of India (NFAI) was established as a media unit of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in February 1964. It is was a member of the International Federation of Film Archives. In March 2022, it was merged with National Film Development Corporation. Objectives Its three principal objectives are: to trace, acquire and preserve for posterity the heritage of Indian cinema; to classify, document data and undertake research relating to films; to act as a centre for the dissemination of film culture. Organization With headquarters at Pune, Maharashtra, NFAI had three regional offices at Bangalore, Calcutta and Thiruvananthapuram. Developed from scratch by P. K. Nair, NFAI's activities related to the dissemination of film culture were manifold. Abrar Alvi (1 July 1927 – 18 November 2009) was an Indian film writer, director and actor. Most of his notable work was done in the 1950s and 1960s with Guru Dutt. He wrote some of the most respected works of Indian cinema, including ''Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam'', ''Kaagaz Ke Phool'' and ''Pyaasa'', which have an avid following the world over. ''Pyaasa'' is included in the All-Time 100 Movies by ''Time (magazine), Time'' magazine, as chosen by critics Richard Corliss and Richard Schickel. ''Abhijan'' (''অভিযান'', The Expedition) is a 1962 Indian Bengali-language film directed by Satyajit Ray. Introduction The film gives the famous Ray flavour in its composition, flow and dialogues, and use of symbols.
