Dabir Khan
Dabir Khan was a 20th-century 'beenkar' and a vocalist. He was the grandson of legendary vina player Wazir Khan. Career Dabir Khan learned veena from his grandfather, Wazir Khan. He was employed at All India Radio Calcutta. Dabir Khan is also considered as one of India's legendary musician Miyan Tansen's last descendants and in 1969 was awarded a Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. Among the pupils of Dabir Khan was K.C. Dey, Pandit Santosh Banerjee (Formerly head of department of instrumental music, Rabindra Bharati University, Calcutta), Asit De (Head of the Theory Division of the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata) and the noted singer Manna Dey. Rampur State
Rampur State was a 15 gun-salute princely state of British India. It came into existence on 7 October 1774 as a result of a treaty with Oudh. Following independence in 1947, Rampur State and other princely states of the area, such as Benares and Tehri Garhwal were merged into the United Provinces. Rampur state had its capital in Rampur city and its total area was 945 sq miles. Tansen
Tansen ( – 26 April 1589), also referred to and commonly known as Sangeet Samrat () , was a Hindustani classical musician. Born in a Hindu Gaur Brahmin family, he learnt and perfected his art in the northwest region of modern Madhya Pradesh. He began his career and spent most of his adult life in the court and patronage of the Hindu king of Rewa, Raja Ramchandra Singh (r.1555–1592), where Tansen's musical abilities and studies gained widespread fame. This reputation brought him to the attention of the Mughal Emperor Akbar, who sent messengers to Raja Ramchandra Singh, requesting Tansen to join the musicians at the Mughal court. Tansen did not want to go, but Raja Ramchandra Singh encouraged him to gain a wider audience, and sent him along with gifts to Akbar. In 1562, about the age of 60, the Vaishnava musician Tansen joined the Akbar's court, and his performances became a subject of many court historians. Sadarang
Sadarang (1670–1748) was the pen name of the Hindustani musical composer and artist Naimat Khan, who was active in the eighteenth century. He and his nephew Adarang changed the Khayal style of Hindustani music into the form performed today. Naimat Khan composed Khyal for his disciples and he never performed Khyal. Sadarang served in the court of Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah (ruled 1719-1748). Sadarang and Adarang remain influential in Hindustani classical music, mainly through their compositions. Manna Dey
Prabodh Chandra Dey (May 1, 1919 − October 24, 2013), known by his stage name Manna Dey, was an internationally acclaimed and celebrated Indian playback singer, music director, and a musician.
