Daayraa
''Daayraa'' (translation: ''The Square Circle''; sometimes spelled as ''Daayra'') is a 1996 Bollywood film, directed by Amol Palekar, starring Nirmal Pandey and Sonali Kulkarni. The screenplay was by award-winning journalist and novelist, Timeri N. Murari. Exploring themes such as male-female relationships, preconceived notions of love, and social attitudes toward them, the plot involves a romantic relationship between a transvestite dancer and a gang raped woman who begins to dress up like a man. Due to its sensitive themes, the film was not released theatrically in India. The film was the first in Palekar's trilogy on sexuality; '' Anahat'' (2003) and '' Thaang'' (2006) followed it. Sonali Kulkarni
Sonali Kulkarni (born 3 November 1974) is an Indian actress, producer, and writer who primarily appears in Marathi and Hindi films. She has also appeared in Kannada, Tamil, Gujarati and English films. She has worked in over 70 films, both commercial and experimental, as well as some international projects, and is regarded as one of the most versatile Marathi actresses. Amol Palekar
Amol Palekar (born 24 November 1944) is an Indian actor, director and producer of Hindi and Marathi cinema. Career Palekar studied fine arts at the Sir JJ School of Arts, Mumbai, and commenced his artistic career as a painter. As a painter, he had seven one-man exhibitions and participated in many group shows. However, Palekar is better known as a stage and film actor. He has been active in the avant garde theatre in India in Marathi and Hindi theatre as an actor, director and producer since 1967. His contribution to the modern Indian theatre is often overshadowed by his popularity as a lead actor in Hindi films. As a film actor, he was most prominent in the 1970s. Debu Deodhar
Debu Deodhar was an Indian cinematographer who has been part of Indian cinema since 1972. His awards include the Maharashtra State Film Award, the Zee Gaurav Puraskar, and the Goa State award for outstanding cinematography for films such as '' Kairee'' (1999) and '' Daayraa'' (1996). Background Debu Deodhar graduated from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune with a specialization in cinematography. He began work as a cinematographer in 1972 as an assistant cameraman. His 38-year career over more than twentyfive films culminated with his final film, ''Marmabandh'' (2010). ''Quest'' (Marathi title: ''Thang'') is a 2006 bilingual English and Marathi Indian drama film directed by Amol Palekar, starring Mukta Barve, Rishi Deshpande, Mrinal Kulkarni in lead roles. The film is last part of the trilogy on sexuality, which includes '' Daayraa'' (''The Square Circle'', 1996) and '' Anahat'' (''Eternity'', 2001). It is an urban story of a woman who discovers that her husband is homosexual. It was premiered at the Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) on 5 August 2006. This is first English language film made by Palekar. Both the version in Marathi and English were shot simultaneously, and the shooting was completed in 25 days.
