''Da Cor do Pecado'' (English title: ''Shades of Sin'') is a Brazilian telenovela produced and broadcast by TV Globo in the traditional 7pm timeslot between 26 January and 28 August 2004 with a total of 185 episodes, replacing '' Kubanacan'' and preceding ''Começar de Novo''. It is one of Rede Globo's most successful productions, just coming after '' Avenida Brasil'', in terms of viewership and worldwide exhibition, as it been sold to close to 100 countries. A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia). Commonly described using the American colloquialism Spanish soap opera, many telenovelas share some stylistic and thematic similarities to the soap opera familiar to the English-speaking world. It premiered on 5 May 2003, replacing ''O Beijo do Vampiro'', and ended on 24 January 2004, replaced by ''Da Cor do Pecado''.
