DXplain
DXplain is a Clinical decision support system (CDSS) available through the World Wide Web that assists clinicians by generating stratified diagnoses based on user input of patient signs and symptoms, laboratory results, and other clinical findings. Evidential support for each differential diagnosis is presented, along with recommended follow-up that may be conducted by the clinician to arrive at a more definitive diagnosis. The system also serves as a clinician reference with a searchable database of diseases and clinical manifestations. History Designed by the Laboratory of Computer Science at the Massachusetts General Hospital, work on DXplain began in 1984 with a first version being released in 1986. A clinical decision support system (CDSS) is a health information technology, provides clinicians, staff, patients, or other individuals with knowledge and person-specific information, to help health and health care. CDSS encompasses a variety of tools to enhance decision-making in the clinical workflow. VisualDx is clinical decision support system (CDSS) software intended to be used by medical practitioners, including primary care practitioners, to assist them in differential diagnosis. In one of its modes of operation, after a healthcare provider enters some basic facts about the patient, VisualDx presents peer-reviewed photographs or diagrams of medical conditions such as skin conditions, ordered from the most to the least likely, to assist in diagnosis. The system holds over 100,000 images. Other modes of operation include searching for medication that a patient has been taking, to find possible adverse drug reactions that they may be suffering from. A clinician is a health care professional typically employed at a skilled nursing facility or clinic. Clinicians work directly with patients rather than in a laboratory or as a researcher.
