Lazaro Mendez, better known by his stage name DJ Laz (born December 2, 1971 in Hollywood, Florida, United States) is a Cuban-American rapper and DJ from Miami, Florida. He hosted his weekday radio show in Miami on WPOW 96.5 FM, branded "Power 96", for 22 years until he left the company in April 2012. Beginning July 4, 2012, the new ''DJ Laz Morning Show'' began after arbitration on the newly reformatted WRMA DJ106.7 a Bilingual Dance/Rhythmic formatted station. WMIA-FM (93.9 MHz) is a hot adult contemporary radio station that is licensed to Miami Beach, Florida. The station is owned and operated by iHeartMedia. Its studios are located in Miramar, and the transmitter site is in Miami Gardens. History Early years 93.9 FM signed on the air December 1, 1948, as WLRD, the first standalone FM station in Miami. It featured vocals from fellow Americans Flo Rida, Casely and Pitbull. The backing track was composed by production duo the Diaz Brothers, who helped to write the song alongside DJ Laz and Pitbull.
