DHR 778 (locomotive)
DHR 778 (originally number 19) is a narrow-gauge steam locomotive, that was built in 1889 for the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. It is preserved in the United Kingdom, and is the only DHR locomotive outside of India. The locomotive is notable for having the oldest locomotive boiler still in use anywhere in the world. History DHR 778 is a DHR B Class, a design built between 1889 and 1927. A total of 34 were built. By 2005 only 12 remained on the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway and in use (or under repair). The locomotives were designed by Sharp Stewart & Co. of Glasgow and built by them, their successors North British Locomotive Company (NBL, Glasgow), and three each by Baldwin Locomotive Works (BLW, Philadelphia, USA), and the DHR works at Tindharia. Ffestiniog Railway
The Ffestiniog Railway ( cy, Rheilffordd Ffestiniog) is a heritage railway based on narrow-gauge, located in Gwynedd, Wales. It is a major tourist attraction located mainly within the Snowdonia National Park. The railway is roughly long and runs from the harbour at Porthmadog to the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, travelling through forested and mountainous terrain. The line is single track throughout with four intermediate passing places. The first mile of the line out of Porthmadog runs atop an embankment called ''the Cob'', which is the dyke of the polder known as Traeth Mawr. The Beeches Light Railway is a private narrow gauge railway in Steeple Aston, Oxfordshire, England, in the garden of Adrian Shooter, the former director of Chiltern Railways. ''Today's Railways UK'' is an English-based monthly magazine covering rail transport in Great Britain. It was founded by Platform 5 in January 2002 as ''Entrain'' as a sister publication to ''Today's Railways Europe'', in January 2006 it was rebranded as ''Today's Railways UK''. The magazine was set up by Peter Fox, who wrote a monthly "Grumpy Old Man" Column. It is owned by Platform 5 publications. Fox was editor-in-chief of the magazine until his death in 2011. The Baldwin Class 10-12-D was a class of narrow gauge steam locomotives built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works (USA) for the British War Department Light Railways for service in France during World War I. They were built in 1916–1917 to gauge. Origins of the type The Belgians had designed gauge 2′C n2t locomotives as early as in 1900–1901 for Chemins de fer du Calvados. The prototype was Tubize factory type 73. Weidknecht used these drawings and built similar 11-ton locomotives with subcontracted boilers, presumably built by S.A.Energie, Marcinelle. The Statfold Barn Railway is a narrow gauge railway based near Tamworth, Staffordshire and partially in Warwickshire, England. A tender or coal-car (US only) is a special rail vehicle hauled by a steam locomotive containing its fuel (wood, coal, oil or torrefied biomass) and water.
