Dương (楊) is a Vietnamese surname or given name. The name is transliterated as Yang in Mandarin Chinese and in Korean and Yeung in Cantonese. It is commonly anglicized as Duong. It is not to be confused with another Vietnamese surname '' Đường'' (唐 ), which is anglicized the same; some write Dzuong to distinguish the two. Yang (; ) is the transcription of a Chinese family name. It is the sixth most common surname in Mainland China. It is the 16th surname on the ''Hundred Family Surnames'' text. Dương Quỳnh Hoa (1930–2006) was a notable member of the National Liberation Front in South Vietnam during the Vietnam War and a member of its provisionary government, serving as a cabinet member. Early years Born in 1930, Hoa was from a southern upper-class family, which had been Frenchified during the colonial era. After completing her secondary schooling in Vietnam, she moved to Paris in the 1950s, where she became a communist. Upon finishing her degree, she returned to southern Vietnam, which following the partition of Vietnam following the Battle of Dien Bien Phu and the Geneva Conference had become part of the anti-communist Republic of Vietnam. Dương Văn Minh (; 16 February 19166 August 2001), popularly known as Big Minh, was a South Vietnamese politician and a senior general in the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) and a politician during the presidency of Ngô Đình Diệm. In 1963, he became chief of a military junta after leading a coup in which Diệm was assassinated. Minh lasted only three months before being toppled by Nguyễn Khánh, but assumed power again as the fourth and last President of South Vietnam in April 1975, two days before surrendering to North Vietnamese forces. Lieutenant General Dương Văn Đức (1927–2000) was a Vietnamese army officer. He is best known for leading a coup attempt against General Nguyễn Khánh on 14 September 1964. He was a supporter of the Đại Việt Quốc Dân Đảng (DVQDD, Nationalist Party of Greater Vietnam), a Roman Catholic political movement. Đức joined the French-backed Vietnamese National Army which became the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) after the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) was established. After becoming a major general in 1956 and commanding the Airborne Brigade, Đức served for a year as Ambassador to South Korea. Later, he had problems with President Ngô Đình Diệm and went into exile in France, before returning after the arrest and assassination of Diệm after a November 1963 coup. Dương Thu Hương (born 1947) is a Vietnamese author and political dissident. Early life Born in 1947 in Thái Bình a province in northern Vietnam, Dương came of age just as the Vietnam War was turning violent. At the age of twenty, when she was a student at Vietnamese Ministry of Culture’s Arts College, Dương Thu Hương volunteered to serve in a women’s youth brigade on the front lines of "The War Against the Americans". Dương spent the next seven years of the war in the jungles and tunnels of ''Bình Trị Thiên'', the most heavily bombarded region of the war. Dương Hồng Sơn (born November 20, 1982) is a Vietnamese football manager and former player who is the manager of Quang Nam.
