Dynamo Basketball Club, also known simply as Dynamo, is a basketball club based in Bujumbura, Burundi. Established in 1968, the team competes in both the Viva Basketball League and the Bujumbura Amateurs Basketball Club Association (ACBAB). In the 2024 season, Dynamo plays in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) as the first team from Burundi to play in the league. History Dynamo Basketball Club was founded in 1968. On September 25, 2016, Dynamo won its first-ever Burundian National Championship. In the 2017–18 season, Dynamo had a historically successful season, winning the ACBAB title, Heroes Cup, and President's Cup. Their Bujumbura title was their first since 20 years earlier, in 1998. Basketball Africa League
The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is Africa's premier men's basketball league. The league consists of twelve teams, each qualified through their domestic competition, similar to the format of the UEFA Champions League. The league is a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA) with sponsorship from Nike, Inc., Nike, Air Jordan and Pepsi. Its 2021 BAL season, inaugural season started with the qualifying rounds in October 2019 and the regular season in May 2021. The competition replaces FIBA's Africa Basketball League as the continent's top-tier league. BAL president, Amadou Gallo Fall, announced at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game Africa Luncheon in Chicago, that the season will tip off on 13 March. Burundian Basketball Championship
The Burundian Basketball Championship (in French: Championnat National du Burundi), for sponsorship reason the Viva Basketball League, is a semi-professional basketball league that is the highest level of the sport in Burundi. The league is organised by the Fédération de Basketball du Burundi (FEBABU). In 2022, the league signed a 4-year sponsorship contract with malt drink producer Viva; the winners of the league win a prize money of 10 million FBu (approximately $4,800). 2024 BAL Season
The 2024 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 4, will be the 4th season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season will begin in March 2024 and will finish with the playoffs and finals in the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, for a fourth consecutive season. The league was expanded to 48 games, including four venues, as South Africa will host the inaugural Kalahari Conference. Al Ahly are the defending champions, having won the previous edition. Venues On 19 June 2023, the BAL and the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) announced they agreed on a multi-year extension to their collaboration. 2020 BAL Qualifying Tournaments
The 2020 BAL Qualifying Tournaments were the inaugural qualifying tournaments of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), the newly launched premier basketball league of Africa jointly organized by the NBA and FIBA. While the NBA will co-organise from the regular season, the qualifiers are completely organised by FIBA Africa. A total of 31 teams from 31 countries participate in the qualifying tournaments in order to determine which six teams will play in the 2020 BAL regular season, along with six directly placed six teams. 2024 BAL Qualification
The qualification for the 2024 BAL season, also known as Road to BAL 2024, was the 4th edition of the qualifying tournaments for the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The tournaments were organised by FIBA Africa and are held from 3 October to 26 November 2023. The format was the same as to the previous seasons, with the competition divided in the group phase and the elite 16. In the West Division, Bangui Sporting Club won the division and became the first team from the Central African Republic to qualify. Runners-up were FUS Rabat and Al Ahly Benghazi finished third, and became the first team from Libya to qualify. Club Omnisport de La Police Nationale, commonly known as COSPN or COSPN Analamanga, is a Malagasy basketball club based in Antananarivo, Analamanga. The team plays in the N1A, the top tier level in Madagascar. The team has won the league two times, in 2018 and 2021. The Road to BAL, also known as the BAL Qualifying Tournaments, are the qualifying tournaments of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The organization of the qualifiers is in hands of FIBA Africa. The first qualifying rounds were held on 16 October 2019. The qualifiers are geographically divided into the West and East Division, with three teams qualifying out of each division.
