Dynamo (Soda Stereo Album)
''Dynamo'' () is the sixth studio album by Argentinian rock music, rock band Soda Stereo. It was first released in Argentina on 26 October 1992 by Sony Music, Sony Music Argentina. Considered one of the most essential shoegazing albums (and Hispanic shoegaze's high point by critics and fans alike), this is a very modern release that might have been accepted in English language, anglophone music, and was quite visionary for its era. The album also continued the evolution of musical style the band previously went through with their 1990 album, ''Canción Animal''. This album may also be considered one of the band's most mature and revolutionary releases. A highly experimental record, ''Dynamo'' failed to reach its predecessor's popularity due to many factors, including lack of support from the band's label. Soda Stereo is an Argentine rock band formed in Buenos Aires in 1982 by Gustavo Cerati (lead vocals, guitar), Héctor "Zeta" Bosio (bass) and Carlos Alberto Ficicchia "Charly Alberti" (drums). As the first Hispanic group to achieve mainstream success in Latin America, critics have considered the group as one of the most influential and popular Spanish-language rock bands. The band ventured into many styles, such as "música divertida" ("fun music") in their beginnings, new wave, darkwave, hard rock, alternative rock and electronic rock during their final years. Madchester was a musical and cultural scene that developed in the English city of Manchester in the late 1980s, closely associated with the indie dance scene. Indie-dance (sometimes referred to as indie-rave) saw artists merging indie music with elements of acid house, psychedelia and 1960s pop. ''Colores Santos'' (Spanish for "Holy Colors") is an album released by Argentine musicians Gustavo Cerati and Daniel Melero under the name ''Cerati/Melero'' in 1992. The album was recorded and released previous to Soda Stereo's album ''Dynamo'' (also influenced by Melero's state-of-the-art musical exploration), at the peak of the band's popularity. The album has a strong electronic influence which would inform ''Dynamo'' and help kickstart the electronic rock scene in Argentina. Akai MPC
The Akai MPC (originally MIDI Production Center, now Music Production Center) is a series of music workstations produced by Akai from 1988 onwards. MPCs combine sampling and sequencing functions, allowing users to record portions of sound, modify them and play them back as sequences. The first MPCs were designed by Roger Linn, who had designed the successful LM-1 and LinnDrum drum machines in the 1980s. Linn aimed to create an intuitive instrument, with a grid of pads that can be played similarly to a traditional instrument such as a keyboard or drum kit. In sound and music, sampling is the reuse of a portion (or sample) of a sound recording in another recording. Samples may comprise elements such as rhythm, melody, speech, sounds or entire bars of music, and may be layered, equalized, sped up or slowed down, repitched, looped, or otherwise manipulated. They are usually integrated using hardware ( samplers) or software such as digital audio workstations. A process similar to sampling originated in the 1940s with '' musique concrète'', experimental music created by splicing and looping tape.
