Anthony Van Dyck
Sir Anthony van Dyck (, many variant spellings; 22 March 1599 – 9 December 1641) was a Brabantian Flemish Baroque artist who became the leading court painter in England after success in the Southern Netherlands and Italy. The seventh child of Frans van Dyck, a wealthy Antwerp silk merchant, Anthony painted from an early age. He was successful as an independent painter in his late teens, and became a master in the Antwerp guild in 1618. By this time he was working in the studio of the leading northern painter of the day, Peter Paul Rubens, who became a major influence on his work. Van Dyck worked in London for some months in 1621, then returned to Flanders for a brief time, before travelling to Italy, where he stayed until 1627, mostly in Genoa. Perry Rand Dyck (born 1943 in Calgary, Alberta) is the author of the Canadian Politics: Critical Approaches textbook which is used in many Canadian universities, and taught to students studying Political Science, Law, Economics, Women's Studies, Philosophy, Anthropology, Sociology, and History. Since 1993, Dr. Dyck has participated in the organisation of the Laurentian University Model Parliament, an event which has been featured in Maclean's magazine. He currently teaches at Carleton University as an adjunct professor and also at Nunavut Sivuniksavut in Ottawa. He won the Teaching Excellence Award at Laurentian University and the OCUFA Teaching Excellence Award in 2002 and the Faculty of Public Affairs Teaching Award at Carleton University in 2014. Lillian Dyck
Lillian Eva Quan Dyck, (born August 24, 1945) is a retired Canadian senator from Saskatchewan. A member of the Cree Gordon First Nation in Saskatchewan, and a first generation Chinese Canadian, she is the first female First Nations senator and first Canadian-born senator of Chinese descent. Before being appointed to the Senate, Dyck was a neuroscientist with the University of Saskatchewan, where she was also an associate dean. On March 12, 1999, Dyck, who is one of the first Aboriginal women in Canada to pursue an academic career in the sciences, was presented with a lifetime achievement award by Indspire. Walther Franz Anton von Dyck (6 December 1856 – 5 November 1934), born Dyck () and later ennobled, was a German mathematician. He is credited with being the first to define a mathematical group, in the modern sense in . He laid the foundations of combinatorial group theory, being the first to systematically study a group by generators and relations. Lionel Dyck SCZ, also referred to as Colonel Dyck, is a Zimbabwean mercenary and former soldier. He was born in 1944 in Southern Rhodesia and served with the Rhodesian Army and Zimbabwe Defence Forces before founding Dyck Advisory Group (DAG) to offer protective military services in Africa. Military career Dyck was born in 1944 in Southern Rhodesia. When he was 17, he joined the Rhodesian Army and was placed in the Rhodesian Light Infantry (RLI). However, he was court-martialed and expelled from the army after driving a Unimog whilst drunk, resulting in him killing an RLI soldier. He underwent education in South Africa and gave up drinking. He re-enlisted in the Rhodesian Army during the Rhodesian Bush War. He would later rise to become a major in the Rhodesian African Rifles (RAR). Peter George Dyck
Peter George Dyck (November 22, 1946 – January 5, 2020) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a member of the Manitoba legislature from 1995 to 2011. Before entering provincial politics, Dyck was a public school music teacher (one of his students was Loreena McKennitt). He also served on the board of directors for the Winkler Credit Union for seventeen years (as President for five), and was a member of the Garden Valley School Division board from 1978 to 1995 (as chair for ten). Dyck was also the owner and operator of a grains and special crops farm, with a cattle feedlot. Dyck was first elected in the Manitoba legislature in the provincial election of 1995, running as a candidate of the governing Progressive Conservatives in the rural, southern riding of Pembina. Paul Dyck (born April 15, 1971) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman and currently the head coach and general manager of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Steinbach Pistons. Playing career Dyck played major junior hockey with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League and was drafted 236th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. He spent ten seasons in the International Hockey League, mostly with the Cleveland Lumberjacks and Houston Aeros, and was a member of the Aeros' 1999 Turner Cup championship team.
