Dy is a surname in Cambodia and the Philippines. Origins As an English surname, Dy is a variant spelling of Dye, which may have come from the Greek masculine given name Dionysios or its feminine form Dionysia. One early record of the surname Dy is in the 1379 poll tax returns of Yorkshire. Another known origin of the surname is from the Chinese Filipino community, where Dy transcribes a Hokkien pronunciation of the Chinese surname spelled Lǐ () in the Hanyu Pinyin transcription of its Mandarin pronunciation. The United States census of 2010 was the twenty-third United States national census. National Census Day, the reference day used for the census, was April 1, 2010. The census was taken via mail-in citizen self-reporting, with enumerators serving to spot-check randomly selected neighborhoods and communities. Kim Kianna Mababa Dy (born July 26, 1995) is a Filipino volleyball athlete. She is a member of the Philippines women's national volleyball team and the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers. Rolando Gabriel Dy (born August 11, 1990) is a retired Filipino mixed martial artist. He most notably fought in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Brave Combat Federation. Pauline Dy Phon (ប៉ូលីន ឌី ផុន) (1933-21 May 2010) was a Cambodian botanist who specialized in the flora of Southeast Asia. Coming to study in France, she obtained her license in 1959 at the Faculty of Sciences in Paris. She became a teacher and researcher at the University of Phnom Penh, though in 1975 she was forced to stop work because the Khmer Rouge came to power. Dy Proeung ( km, ឌី ព្រឿង; born 1930s) is a Cambodian architect and sculptor. He is notable for creating scaled-down models of Cambodian temples, most notably Angkor Wat. An article in ''Roads & Kingdoms'' once described Proeung as Cambodia's "Most diligent and heroic architect". Biography Proeung was born in Cambodia (then part of French Indochina) in the 1930s. Tomas Enciso Dy-Liacco (November 12, 1920 – October 24, 2019) was a Filipino-American electrical engineer, researcher, and developer often referred to as the father of modern energy control centers.
