Dwivedi or Duvedi or Diwedi or Dubay or Dubey or Dave or Dube or is an Indian surname meaning ''versed in two Vedas''. The surname is used by Brahmins in northern India. Rewa Prasad Dwivedi (22 August 1935 - 21 May 2021) was a Sanskrit scholar, poet, writer, teacher, and critic. His original works include poetry as epics and lyrics, plays, and prose. Hazari Prasad Dwivedi (19 August 190719 May 1979) was a Hindi novelist, literary historian, essayist, critic and scholar. He penned numerous novels, collections of essays, historical research on medieval religious movements of India especially Kabir and Natha Sampradaya, and historical outlines of Hindi literature. Brahm Dutt Dwivedi (1938-1997) was an Indian cabinet minister in Government of Uttar Pradesh, and a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Dwivedi was shot dead in Farrukhabad district in February 1997. His widow Prabha later contested the election to the assembly.
