Dwayne Harper
Dwayne Harper (born March 29, 1966) is an American former professional American football, foobtall player who was a cornerback for 12 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the South Carolina State Bulldogs football, South Carolina State Bulldogs and was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the 11th round of the 1988 NFL Draft. Harper started in Super Bowl XXIX for the San Diego Chargers. A cornerback (CB) is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary in gridiron football. Cornerbacks cover receivers most of the time, but also blitz and defend against such offensive running plays as sweeps and reverses. They create turnovers through hard tackles, interceptions, and deflecting forward passes. Other members of the defensive backfield include strong and free safeties. 1988 NFL Draft
The 1988 NFL draft was the procedure by which National Football League teams selected amateur college football players. It is officially known as the NFL Annual Player Selection Meeting. The draft was held April 24–25, 1988, at the Marriot Marquis in New York City, New York. The league also held a supplemental draft after the regular draft and before the regular season. With the first overall pick of the draft, the Atlanta Falcons selected linebacker Aundray Bruce. Notably, the first player selected at the quarterback position did not come until the third round (68th overall) with Tom Tupa (by the Phoenix Cardinals), who was also selected because of his ability as a punter.
