Dwarf Sports Association UK
The Dwarf Sports Association UK (DSAUK) aims to "make regular sporting opportunities accessible and enjoyable to ... everyone of restricted growth in the United Kingdom". The association was founded by Arthur Dean and fellow members of the Restricted Growth Association (RGA) at the October 1993 RGA Annual Conference. This followed Dean's participation in the first World Dwarf Games in Chicago, organised by the Dwarf Athletic Association of America (DAAA). In 2014 Arthur and Penny Dean were both honoured with OBEs for their work over many years supporting and developing sport for people with Dwarfism and Restricted growth. The association has organised the UK National Dwarf Games since 1995. The 2014 event, in Birmingham and Wolverhampton, attracted about 200 athletes. In 2015 the association launched a national Sport and Physical Activity Survey, with the aim of improving opportunities for people of restricted growth to take part in sporting activities. Dwarfism
Dwarfism is a condition wherein an organism is exceptionally small, and mostly occurs in the animal kingdom. In humans, it is sometimes defined as an adult height of less than , regardless of sex; the average adult height among people with dwarfism is , although some individuals with dwarfism are slightly taller. ''Disproportionate dwarfism'' is characterized by either short limbs or a short torso. In cases of ''proportionate dwarfism'', both the limbs and torso are unusually small. Intelligence is usually normal, and most have a nearly normal life expectancy. People with dwarfism can usually bear children, though there are additional risks to the mother and child dependent upon the underlying condition. The most common and recognisable form of dwarfism in humans (comprising 70% of cases) is achondroplasia, a genetic disorder whereby the limbs are diminutive. Growth hormone deficiency is responsible for most other cases. Treatment depends on the underlying cause. Those w ...

Restricted Growth Association
The Restricted Growth Association (RGA) is a UK charity that supports people with dwarfism (restricted growth). The RGA was formed in 1970 by Charles Pocock, Martin Nelson and other individuals in the UK wanting to provide a support network for people with restricted growth (dwarfism). Initially known as the Association into Research of Restricted Growth, the charity aims to support all individuals and their families affected by skeletal dysplasia leading to short stature. There are many different forms of dwarfism caused by genetic conditions, but the most common form of disproportionate short stature, causing about 70% of cases, is achondroplasia. There are over 200 known genetic conditions that can lead to short stature (dwarfism). 80% of children born with one of these conditions are born to parents with no previous family history of genetic skeletal dysplasia. The RGA aims to provide support from the first diagnosis and right through the life of the individual. The RGA's ai ...

Dwarf Athletic Association Of America
The Dwarf Athletic Association of America (DAAA) is an American athletic organization that sponsors and organizes athletic events for people with dwarfism. History Founded in 1985, the DAAA's purpose is to develop, promote, and provide little people athletes with organized and quality amateur athletics in a supportive environment. DAAA holds the idea that there is a lack of sports opportunity for little people in America and they look to fill the void and provide an environment that rewards dwarf athletes by taking their potential seriously and giving them a realistic opportunity to succeed through hard work and dedication. The DAAA also believes that "the dream of honoring America in international competition should be as real for a dwarf athlete as it is for any other in the country." Mission According to its website, the DAAA's mission is: "To encourage people with dwarfism to participate in sports regardless of their level of skills." It is also to help dwarfs realize their t ...

Little People Of America
Little People of America (LPA) is a non-profit organization which provides support, resources, and information to individuals with dwarfism and their families. Founding LPA was founded in 1957 by actor Billy Barty when he informally called upon people of short stature to join him in a get-together in Reno, Nevada. The original association was known as Midgets of America until 1960. The name was later changed to Midgets and Dwarfs of America when the people with dwarfism complained that there were more dwarfs than midgets. That original meeting of 21 people evolved into Little People of America, a group which as of 2010 has more than 6,800 members. LPA has 73 local chapters which meet regularly as well as an annual weeklong conference. They publish a quarterly publication national newsletter titled ''LPA Today''. LPA is the first North American "little people" organization, with the Little People of Canada incorporating in Canada in 1984. "Midget" as a slur During the 2009 Nationa ...

Sports Organisations Of The United Kingdom
Sport pertains to any form of competitive physical activity or game that aims to use, maintain, or improve physical ability and skills while providing enjoyment to participants and, in some cases, entertainment to spectators. Sports can, through casual or organized participation, improve participants' physical health. Hundreds of sports exist, from those between single contestants, through to those with hundreds of simultaneous participants, either in teams or competing as individuals. In certain sports such as racing, many contestants may compete, simultaneously or consecutively, with one winner; in others, the contest (a ''match'') is between two sides, each attempting to exceed the other. Some sports allow a "tie" or "draw", in which there is no single winner; others provide tie-breaking methods to ensure one winner and one loser. A number of contests may be arranged in a tournament producing a champion. Many sports leagues make an annual champion by arranging games in a ...
