Duvall's Range
Located Glenwood in Howard County, Maryland, United States, Duvall's Range or the Steven Boone Dorsey House. Duvall's Range is a 708-acre land grant surveyed in 1672 sold by Mareen Duvall's brother John Duvall to John Dorsey in 1695. John Dorsey's son Steven Boone Dorsey Jr. constructed the log structures on the slave plantation property. In 1792, portions of Duvall's Range and Vanity Mount were transferred from Philemon Dorsey to Dr. Charles Alexander Warfield. The stucco-covered stone plantation house built around 1795 is two stories tall and three bays wide which is built around a log house and smoke house built in 1695. By the 1970s, the property had been subdivided down to an 81-acre parcel and is currently a 72.8-acre agricultural zoned parcel. Glenwood, Howard County, Maryland
Glenwood is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, United States. It is located between Baltimore and Washington, D.C., therefore attracting commuters to those employment centers. The community features acres of open space and is districted to Bushy Park Elementary, Glenwood and Folly Quarter Middle, and Glenelg High schools. Union Chapel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and Round About Hills was added in 2008. The population in 2020 was approximately 3,416. The area was settled in the early 18th century by the Ridgley and Warfield families forming large tobacco plantations: "Bushy Park", " Longwood", "Ellerslie" and others. In 1822, James B. Matthews purchased a 200-acre farm and stone home from Caleb Dorsey. Mareen Duvall
Mareen Duvall (1625–1694) was a French Huguenot and an early American settler. Background Mareen Duvall was born in 1625, in Nantes, France and was originally named Marin Duval. On August 28, 1650, Duvall emigrated as an Indentured Servant (a slave for seven years) to the English colony of Maryland. Eventually, he acquired a patent for La Val from the Calvert family who were the first proprietors of colonial Maryland. It was possible that he named the family estate after the county of Laval, an independent county created in the 15th century. This property was on the south side the South River in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He became quite prosperous and his Middle Plantation in Davidsonville, Maryland and La Val were "as luxurious and courtly as any of the manors of the English gentry."
