Dutch Syndicalist Trade Union Federation
The Dutch Syndicalist Trade Union Federation ( nl, Nederlands Syndicalistisch Vakverbond, NSV) was an anarcho-syndicalist trade union, affiliated with the International Workers' Association (IWA). The NSV had its own magazine called ''De Syndicalist'', which appeared weekly between 1923 and 1940. History The NSV was founded in June 1923 after a split in the National Labor Secretariat ( nl, Nationaal Arbeids-Secretariaat, NAS), which later joined the communist Red International of Labor Unions (RILU), the trade union branch of the Comintern. In the early days of the NSV, there were difficulties in the organization due to the ongoing relationship with the NAS. When the NAS broke with the RVI in 1929, there was an attempt to merge the NAS and the NSV again. IWA–AIT
The International Workers' Association – (IWA–AIT) is an international federation of anarcho-syndicalist labor unions and initiatives. Based on the principles of revolutionary unionism, the international aims to create unions capable of fighting for the economic and political interests of the working class and eventually, to directly abolish capitalism and the state through "the establishment of economic communities and administrative organs run by the workers." At its peak the International represented millions of people worldwide. Its member unions played a central role in the social conflicts of the 1920s and 1930s. Trade Unions In The Netherlands
Trade Unions play a major role in the corporatist Dutch economy. Dynamics In 2001 about 25% of the Dutch people who were employed were organized in a union. There are three major unions: the Christian-democratic " Christelijk Nationaal Vakverbond (CNV)", the social-democratically oriented " Federatie Nederlandse Vakbeweging (FNV)" and the " Federation of Managerial and Professional Staff Unions (MHP)". All are federations of sector-based labour unions. The FNV is with about 1,4 million members the largest of the three. The CNV has 350.000 members and the MHP 160.000. The FNV has 17 affiliate unions, the CNV 11 and the MHP 4. Anarcho-syndicalism is a political philosophy and anarchist school of thought that views revolutionary industrial unionism or syndicalism as a method for workers in capitalist society to gain control of an economy and thus control influence in broader society. The end goal of syndicalism is to abolish the wage system, regarding it as wage slavery. Anarcho-syndicalist theory generally focuses on the labour movement. Syndicalism is a revolutionary current within the left-wing of the labor movement that seeks to unionize workers according to industry and advance their demands through strikes with the eventual goal of gaining control over the means of production and the economy at large. Developed in French labor unions during the late 19th century, syndicalist movements were most predominant amongst the socialist movement during the interwar period which preceded the outbreak of World War II.
