Dutch National Basketball Team
The Netherlands men's national basketball team ( nl, Het Nederlands nationaal basketbalteam) represents the Netherlands in international basketball matches. The national team is governed by Basketball Nederland. The Dutch have reached the European Basketball Championship on 15 occasions. Their best results at the event came in 1983, where they finished in fourth place. They have also qualified for the FIBA World Cup once, in 1986. However, in recent years the national team has struggled to maintain consistency to reach major international tournaments. The team represents itself as the Orange Lions. Radenko Varagić
Radenko Varagić (born 23 September 1973) is a Serbian-Dutch basketball coach. He currently serves as a head coach for BAL Weert of the BNXT League. Coaching career Born in Serbia, Varagić started his coaching career in 2015 with Ribnica and during 2017 to 2011, he worked for Kraljevo, Krusevac and Novi Sad. After a period in the youth academy of Red Star Belgrade, he moved to the Netherlands in 2014. On 13 September 2016, Varagić was appointed as head coach of BSW of the Dutch Basketball League (DBL). After the 2016–17 season, the club went bankrupt and was replaced by BAL, as he took over as head coach of the club's new DBL team. In the 2020–21 season, he coached BAL to their first playoffs appearance after finishing in the eight place. Topsportcentrum (Almere)
The Topsportcentrum is an indoor sports arena, located in Almere, Netherlands. Designed by architectural studio ZJA, it opened on the 7th of October in 2007. Its operator is the city of Almere and its main hall has a capacity of 3,000 people. The sports it is used most for are volleyball and basketball, with VC Allvo and Almere Pioneers use the venue as their home arena. The hall was finished in 2007 and costed €14 million. From 2007 until 2013, the hall was used for the final of the NBB Cup, the main cup competition for men's basketball teams. Dan Gadzuric
Daniel Gadzuric (born February 2, 1978) is a Dutch-Serbian former professional basketball player. Gadzuric, a center, attended preparatory school at The Governor's Academy in Byfield, Massachusetts, before playing college basketball for the Bruins at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Professional career Gadzuric was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2002 NBA Draft. On June 22, 2010, Gadzuric and Charlie Bell were traded to the Golden State Warriors for Corey Maggette after spending eight years with the Bucks. On February 23, 2011, Gadzuric was traded to the New Jersey Nets along with Brandan Wright in exchange for Troy Murphy and a second round pick. Francisco Elson
Francisco Marinho Robby Elson (born February 28, 1976, in Rotterdam) is a Dutch retired professional basketball player. Elson was the seventh Dutch player to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Elson served as the captain of the Netherlands national basketball team in international basketball, as he led the team in several EuroBasket qualifying rounds. He was the first Dutch player to become NBA champion, with the San Antonio Spurs in 2007. Youth and college career Elson started his career at AMVJ Rotterdam at the age of twelve. After a couple of years playing, he stopped after his older brother Patrick died of a heart attack while playing basketball at the age of 21. The Italy men's national basketball team ( it, Nazionale di pallacanestro dell'Italia) represents Italy in international basketball tournaments. They are administered by the Italian Basketball Federation (FIP).
