Dusty Mitchell Ryan (born September 2, 1984) is an American former professional baseball player. A catcher, Ryan played in Major League Baseball for the Detroit Tigers. Ryan's first major league hit was a home run. He is 6'4" tall and weighs 220 pounds. On December 21, 2009, Ryan was traded from the Detroit Tigers to the San Diego Padres for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Ryan was called up to the Padres on May 31, . Catcher is a Baseball positions, position in baseball and softball. When a Batter (baseball), batter takes their at bat, turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home plate, home) Umpire (baseball), umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket.
