Arthur Lamothe
Arthur Lamothe, (December 7, 1928 – September 18, 2013) was a French-Canadian film director and film producer. Biography Born in Saint-Mont, France, Lamothe immigrated to Canada in 1953 and immediately got a job as a lumberjack in the Abitibi region of northern Quebec. In 1954 he began studying economics at the Université de Montréal. During his time as a student he became interested in cinema and began writing for several film publications. After graduating in 1958, he was immediately hired as a writer for Radio-Canada. In 1961 he was hired by the NFB and wrote ''Dimanche d'Amérique'', his first screenplay, which became the first film by Gilles Carle. In 1962 he directed his first film, a short documentary entitled ''Bûcherons de la Manouane''. He directed his first feature-length fiction work in 1965, ''Poussière sur la ville''; the film was not successful and Lamothe returned to documentary films. ''Cinema Canada'' (1972–1989) is a defunct Canadian film magazine, which served as the trade journal of record for the Canadian film and television sector. The magazine had its origins in the Canadian Society of Cinematographers (CSC), which began publishing a bi-monthly newsletter under the name ''Canadian Cinematography'' in 1962. In 1967, the publication's name was changed to ''Cinema Canada''. In 1972, the CSC approached George Csaba Koller and Phillip McPhedran of Toronto to produce a glossier format. However, this association lasted only four issues, after which McPhedran resigned for personal reasons. Pierre Patry
Pierre Patry (November 2, 1933 – June 7, 2014) was a Canadian film director and screenwriter. Biography Born in Hull, Quebec, Patry began his career in the theatre as an actor and a playwright. He was a founding member of the Canadian Association of Amateur Theatre. He joined the National Film Board of Canada in 1957 as a writer on the ''Panoramique'' series. Patry was a major force in the beginning of the Quebec feature-film industry in the sixties. He directed three features, most notably '' Trouble-Maker (Trouble fête)'' in 1964. He left the NFB in 1963 to co-found the film cooperative Coopératio with Roger Blais and Jean-Claude Lord. Unfortunately, the company shut down after five years because of systemic problems in the financing and distribution of feature films. In 1981 he was a major player in the development of the French language educational television station Canal Savoir. Patri died on June 7, 2014.
