Durban Ladies W.F.C is a women's professional soccer club based in Umlazi, Kwa-Zulu Natal. The team competes in the SAFA Women's League, the top tier women's football league in South Africa History This club founded by Mary–Jane Sokhela in 1990. The club was founded under the name Umlazi Fast Eagles. In 1997 was sponsored by Spar and AmaZulu and later changed the club's name to Spar AmaZulu Ladies F.C. In 1999, it was changed again to Durban Ladies F.C. The club won the KZN SASOL League and gained a spot in SAFA Women's League that started in August 2019. The league didn't finished due to COVID-19 which resulted Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies F.C. being crowned champions. Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Clermont, a township of Durban, South Africa. It is currently used mostly for football matches and was selected as one of the 3 training venues of the 2010 FIFA World Cup after being renovated in 2010 and brought up to FIFA standards. 2023 SAFA Women's League
The 2023 SAFA Women's League was the fourth season of the professional SAFA Women's League, and the 14th season of nation-wide league competition in women's football in South Africa. It was the 2nd season played with 16 teams. Teams The 2022 season Golden Ladies and Tsunami Queens FC were relegated to the Sasol National Championship, while Vasco Da Gama changed its name to TS Galaxy Queens after it was purchased by Tim Sukazi, who owns TS Galaxy FC. Umlazi
Umlazi is a township in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, located south-west of Durban. Organisationally and administratively it forms part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality and its South Municipal Planning Region. It is the fourth largest township in South Africa, after Soweto, Tembisa and Katlehong. Umlazi is the only township in the country that has its own registration plate, which is NUZ. Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies FC is a women's professional soccer club from Pretoria, South Africa. It competes in the SAFA Women's League the top tier women's football league in South Africa. Mamelodi, part of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, is a township set up by the then apartheid government northeast of Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa. Etymology "Mamelodi" is the name derived from the Sepedi word with the prefix being "ma" meaning mother, and the suffix "melodi" meaning melodies.
