''Durand Versus Durand'' (French: ''Durand contre Durand'') is a 1931 French-German comedy film directed by Eugen Thiele and Léo Joannon and starring Roger Tréville, Paul Asselin and Jeanne Helbling.Rège p.537 The film's sets were designed by the art director Heinrich Richter. A separate German-language version ''Einer Frau muß man alles verzeih'n'' was also released. Eugen Thiele
Eugen Thiele (1897–1938) was an Austrian film director and screenwriter. Of Jewish backgroundPrawer p.213 he was the younger brother of Wilhelm Thiele. After a spell as an actor he established himself as a director in the Cinema of Germany, Germany film industry of the early 1930s during the final years of the Weimar Republic. The Nazi seizure of power in 1933 brought an effective end to the career of the Jewish Thiele, who went into exile in Prague where he wrote the screenplay for one German-language film ''The Happiness of Grinzing'', and may have also contributed to a German version of the Czech film ''Romance from the Tatra Mountains''. He then returned to his native Austria, living in Baden bei Wien. He died the same year of the Anschluss which brought Austria under Nazi control. Simone Thérèse Fernande Simon (23 April 1910 or 1911 – 22 February 2005) was a French film actress who began her film career in 1931. Early life Born in Marseille, France, she was the daughter of Henri Louis Firmin Clair Simon, a French Jewish engineer and airplane pilot in World War II who died in a concentration camp, and Erma Maria Domenica Giorcelli, an Italian housewife. Before settling and growing up in Marseille, Simon lived in Madagascar, Budapest, Turin, and Berlin. She went to Paris in 1931 and worked briefly as a singer, model, and fashion designer. She also at one point wanted to become a sculptor. Simon worked chiefly for the Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens and then managed to get more serious work with Sacha Guitry in ''Ô mon bel inconnu''. Career After being spotted in a restaurant in June 1931, Simon was offered a film contract by director Victor Tourjansky, which ended her plans to become a fashion designer. Louis Alfred Doumet, known by his stage name of Doumel, (born 2 December 1889 in Marseille; died 23 May 1954 in Reillanne) was a French actor and comedian active in the inter-war years. Biography Having moved to Paris thanks to the passion for the southern style, which flowered at the time with operettas and films on the subject, Doumel started to appear in small music halls and theatres, entertaining audiences with comic stories from Marseille, where he met other actors such as Gorlett and Rellys. Louis Doumel also appeared in various operettas and plays and recorded some discs of tall stories and Marseille jokes. He appeared in his first film in 1926 and continued making films until the Second World War.
