Christopher Dunkin
The Hon. Christopher Dunkin, (September 25, 1812 – January 6, 1881) was a Canadian editor, lawyer, teacher, judge, and politician. Early life Born at Walworth, London, England, he was the son of Summerhayes Dunkin (1779-1823), of Horsleydown, Bermondsey, and Martha, daughter of John Hemming (1760–1825) of Twickenham, Middlesex. He was a first cousin of Hon. Edward John Hemming who came to Canada at his invitation. His family emigrated to New York in 1821, but his father died two years later, and his widow got remarried to the eccentric English surgeon, Jonathan Barber (1784–1864), Professor of Elocution at Harvard and Yale Universities, and Professor of Public speaking at McGill University. The "exceptionally intelligent" Dunkin had returned to Britain to study classics and mathematics at the University of London and the University of Glasgow but graduated from neither. Edwin Dunkin FRS, FRAS (19 August 1821 – 26 November 1898) was a British astronomer and the president of the Royal Astronomical Society and the Royal Institution of Cornwall. Birth and family He was born 19 August 1821, the son of William Dunkin (1781 – 3 July 1838) and Mary Elizabeth (1797–1873), the daughter of David Wise, a Redruth surgeon. Kenneth Dunkin
Kenneth Dunkin (born February 12, 1966), commonly known as Ken Dunkin, is an American politician. He is currently an appointed member of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Board of Commissioners. Dunkin previously served as a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 5th District from December 2002 until January 2017. Early life Born February 12, 1966 in Chicago, Dunkin was raised in the Cabrini–Green housing project on the city's Near-north side. After graduating from Lincoln Park High School in 1984, Dunkin went on to earn his associate degree from Loop College (now known as Harold Washington College). Robert Dunkin
Robert Dunkin (1761–1831), of Penzance, Cornwall, was a Quaker businessman and a mentor of the young Humphry Davy, a founder of the science of electrochemistry, in the practice of experimental science. Tony Dunkin
Tony Dunkin (born February 16, 1970) is an American former college basketball standout for Coastal Carolina University. He is best known for being the only NCAA Division I men's basketball player to be honored as his conference player of the year all four times. In 2003–04 he was part of the inaugural 11-person class inducted into the Big South Conference Hall of Fame. College career Freshman season In 1989–90, Dunkin was forced to sit out the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers' first five games due to NCAA eligibility rules because he had just transferred from Jacksonville University. In his collegiate debut on December 9, 1989, against Georgia Tech, Dunkin, a forward, scored 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting. He scored a season-high 28 points on February 1, 1990, against Campbell en route to averages of 18.1 points and 6.6 rebounds during his rookie campaign. William Dunkin
William Dunkin, D.D. (1709?–1765), was an Irish poet. Life William Dunkin was born in Dublin in around 1709. His parents died when he was young and he was left in early life to the charge of Trinity College, Dublin, by an aunt who left her property to the college with the condition that it should provide for his education and advancement in life. He took his B.A. degree in 1729, and D.D. in 1744. As a young man, he had a reputation for foolish acts and clever poems. He was introduced to Jonathan Swift, who became at once a very valuable patron to him. His ordination by the Archbishop of Cashel in 1735 and the increase of the annuity which he received from Trinity College from £70 to £100 in 1736 were both due to Swift's intercession, which caused his marriage and other imprudent acts to be overlooked.
