Dunkerton, Somerset
Dunkerton is a small village in the civil parish of Dunkerton and Tunley, north east of Radstock, and south west of Bath, in the Bath and North East Somerset unitary authority, Somerset, England. The parish has a population of 502. History The parish of Dunkerton was part of the Wellow Hundred. It was called ''Duncretone'' in the Domesday Survey, and had earlier been held by a thegn named Alwold "the bald" in the reign of Edward the Confessor, who was possibly Alwold of Stevington. After the conquest it was granted along with other fiefs to a tenant called Turstin FitzRolf, also known as Tosteins Fitz-Rou and “le Blanc” of the Bec-en-Caux region of Normandy, who was described as a valiant warrior at the Battle of Hastings. In the 18th and 19th century Dunkerton was surrounded by several coal mines on the Somerset coalfield. Evidence remains in the powderhouse, which dates from 1870 and is a Grade II listed building. Julian Marc Dunkerton (born March 1965) is a British businessman, and the co-founder of the fashion label Superdry. Early life Dunkerton's father Ivor and stepmother Susie founded and ran Dunkertons Organic Cider. Dunkerton moved to Herefordshire from London at the age of 14. He was educated at Ibstock Place School, London, Orleans Park School, Twickenham, from 11 to 14, and then the Minster School, Herefordshire. Career At the age of 19, Dunkerton, along with his then business partner Ian Hibbs, founded the fashion retail chain Cult Clothing Co with a £2,000 loan. In 2014, Dunkerton took control of his family's cider company, and brought in business partner Jeremy Benson (aka Bean), to work alongside his father Ivor, developing his palate and learning the craft of organic cider and perry making. Ross Dunkerton OAM (born 16 July 1945) is an Australian rally driver. Dunkerton is a 5 time Australian Rally Champion and 2 time Asian Pacific Rally Champion. He was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 2018. Dunkerton is one of only three Australian rally drivers in history to achieve FIA A seeded status (the others being Chris Atkinson and Cody Crocker), and is arguably Australia’s most successful. Dunkerton was awarded life membership with CAMS in 2011, inducted into the Australian Rally Hall of Fame in 2013 and the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame in 2016. Dunkerton won the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship in 1991 and 1992 in a Mitsubishi Galant VR-4 as a full-time factory driver for Mitsubishi Ralliart.
