Dunker
A Dunker, also known as the Norwegian Hound, is a medium-sized breed of dog from Norway. It was bred by Wilhelm Dunker to be a scenthound by crossing a Russian Harlequin Hound with dependable Norwegian scent hounds. It is a very rare dog breed, and most Dunkers are found in Norway and Sweden. On average, 150 puppies from the Dunker breed are born each year. Appearance The Dunker has a clean, noble, long head with parallel planes of the skull and muzzle, carried low and not wedge-shaped. Its skull is slightly domed with a defined stop and clean cheeks, the muzzle is long and square-cut with a straight and broad nasal bridge, and its teeth are evenly spaced with a scissor-bite. The Dunker has a black nose with wide nostrils, round, large, and dark eyes, and low-set, wide, flat, ears that hang close to the head and to the middle of the muzzle. Balthasar Anton Dunker
Balthasar Anton Dunker (15 January 1746, Saal – 2 April 1807, Bern) was a German landscape painter and etcher. Biography He was the eldest son of pastor Albert Andreas Duncker (1706–1781) and his second wife, Sophie Dorothea von Olthof (d.1761). His early artistic career was promoted by his uncle, Adolf Friedrich von Olthof, a Swedish Pomeranian Councilor from Stralsund, who arranged for him to study with the landscape painter Jakob Philipp Hackert. In 1765, Hackert took him to Paris and, after the Olthofs lost their fortune in 1768, took over his upbringing. In addition to receiving lessons from Joseph Marie Vien and Noël Hallé, he was influenced by the work of the copper engraver, Johann Georg Wille. He also studied the basics of etching with Jacques Aliamet. His first commissions came from the art dealer, Jacques-Gabriel Huquier, and enabled him to support himself. Bernhard Dunker
Bernhard Dunker (22 May 1809 – 28 July 1870) was a Norwegian jurist, barrister and Attorney General of Norway. Personal life Dunker was born in the Duchy of Schleswig in Southern Jutland to Conradine Birgitte Hansteen and Johan Friedrich Wilhelm Dunker, and came to Norway when he was one year old. He was a brother of Vilhelmine Ullmann, and nephew of astronomer Christopher Hansteen. He married Edle Jasine Theodore Grundt in 1839, and among their children was writer and feminist Mathilde Schjøtt. He was uncle of politician and feminist Ragna Nielsen and educator and politician Viggo Ullmann, grandfather of architect Jens Gram Dunker, and father-in-law of philologist and politician Peter Olrog Schjøtt. Conradine Birgitte Dunker (née Hansteen) (25 August 1780 – 11 September 1866) was a Norwegian socialite and writer. Biography Conradine Birgitte Hansteen was born in Christiania, 25 August 1780. Her parents were the custom official Johannes Mathias Hansteen (1744–1792) and Anne Cathrine Treschow (1754–1829). In 1796, she married captain Ulrik Anton Nicolai Blix Aamodt (1758-1806), and in 1807, she married the businessman Johan Friedrich Wilhelm Dunker (1775–1844). Henry Christian Louis Dunker (6 September 1870 – 3 May 1962) was a Swedish businessman and industrialist in Helsingborg, Sweden. His father was the founder of Helsingsborgs Gummifabrik AB ( sv), also known as Tretorn AB, a manufacturer of rubber products which Dunker established as an international business. At the time of his death in 1962, Dunker was Sweden's wealthiest man. His fortune was donated to the improvement of the city of Helsingborg. Jens Gram Dunker (February 17, 1892 – August 25, 1981) was a Norwegian architect. He was noted for his work in the transition between neo-classicism and functionalism in Norwegian architecture. Dunker made significant contributions to Norwegian functionalism through different types of buildings: townhouses, housing blocks, townhouses, villas, theaters and hotels. Vincent Joseph Dunker (December 6, 1878 – March 11, 1974) was a photographer, inventor and camera manufacturer who began his career in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri in the late 1890s. Dunker built a wide variety of cameras, contact printers, photo enlargers, and photo booths over a period of thirty-seven years. In 1924 he began production of his specialty, long roll film cameras intended for taking photos of high school students for yearbooks and individual sale. Wilhelm Dunker, full name Wilhelm Bernhard Rudolph Hadrian Dunker (21 February 1809, Eschwege – 13 March 1885, Marburg) was a German geologist, paleontologist and zoologist (specifically a malacologist). Wilhelm Dunker studied mining and metallurgical engineering in Göttingen and worked at first as a trainee with the local mining authority. Soon thereafter he was appointed a teacher of mineralogical sciences at the poly-technical school in Kassel. In 1854 he was appointed professor at the University of Marburg, at which he taught up to his death. Dunker was one of the most important malacologists of his time. He had a very extensive private collection of snails and shells, which he constantly increased by exchange with other collectors (and probably also by purchases).
