Dunehampton is the name of a village that was proposed in 2003 to be incorporated along of Atlantic Ocean beach between Village of Southampton and the hamlet of Wainscott in the Town of Southampton, in Suffolk County, on the South Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. The attempts to incorporate were unsuccessful. Overview The proposal met stiff resistance from the nearby communities of Water Mill, Bridgehampton, and Sagaponack because they feared the village would impose strict parking rules on the beaches cutting them off from the ocean. The Town of East Hampton is located in southeastern Suffolk County, New York, at the eastern end of the South Shore of Long Island. It is the easternmost town in the state of New York. Ira Leon Rennert (born May 31, 1934) is an American billionaire businessman, and the chairman and CEO of Renco Group. Background and education Rennert's parents were immigrants from Poland and Romania. He graduated from Brooklyn College in 1954, and earned his master's degree from New York University's Stern School of Business in 1956, where he later was on the Board of Overseers. Early career Rennert started his career as a credit analyst on Wall Street in 1956. He also served as a partner at Rubin, Rennert & Co. before launching his own business, I. L. Sagaponack is a village in the Town of Southampton in Suffolk County, on the East End of Long Island, in New York, United States. The population of the village was 313 at the 2010 census. Sagaponack is also the name of a popular seafood restaurant in the flatiron district in New York City. History The area was first settled around 1653. The village was incorporated on September 2, 2005, in the wake of the failed attempt by Dunehampton, New York to incorporate. Dunehampton's incorporation would have blocked Sagaponack from beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. The villages are seeking to address various beach issues including erosion arising from groynes at Georgica Pond in East Hampton village. Bridgehampton, New York
Bridgehampton is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) on the South Fork of Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 1,756 at the 2010 census. Bridgehampton is in the town of Southampton, on Long Island. Shortly after the founding of Southampton in 1640, settlers began to move east to the area known by the Shinnecock Indians as Sagaponack and Mecox. At the head of Sagg Pond, the settlers established a community called Bullhead, later renamed Bridgehampton—after the bridge built across the pond. Sagg Bridge was built in 1686 by Ezekiel Sandford. The bridge was the link between Mecox and Sagaponack and gave this locality its name of Bridgehampton.
